    Classic Daily E30 325iX S54 Swap

    Keeping them rolling....

The owner of this wanted something that he can drive year round (lives where it snows), has classic style (e30), and has a bunch of power (S54). So lets combine them all and make something.

This car already have H&Rs and bilsteins which will stay. It will get new bushings all around, rebuilt axles, and freshened up all the way around. Interior will get swapped to black. (looking for seats if anyone has any black sports please send me a PM)

This might be the cleanest iX I have ever seen. Now I haven't seen many but those that I have are rusted and rotted.

    Underside...man it's clean

    More to come in time.

Weird. Impressive but weird. Will the oddball ix driveline hold up under that kind of power level?

Looking good. Ix drivetrain will handle ~500hp easily with few small mods.. if its going to be above that you should start to think reinforcing the front diff with extra diff gears.

should be fine for a stock internals S54. the transfer case is way overbuilt. the front diff isn't the strongest but if he's not drag racing it should hold up fine. People don't really understand, but drivetrains are really rated in torque, not power. the S54 has a nice flat torque curve but it's still less than what the chain in the transfercase is rated for.

I can only assume you are going franken pan. that will require a brake booster solution, but otherwise it's pretty much a bolt on affair. I've been working on my own for almost 5 years now, lol. I'm getting closer but I'm taking my time too.

I'd get one of jute91's front driveshaft spline extension peices too!

Yes will be doing the frankenpan. I agree with nando...abuse will kill drivetrains not just power (well within reason). The owner knows he cannot be doing burnouts and clutch drops otherwise stuff will break.

Yes something will have to happen with the brake booster. More than likly I will go to a GM hydroboost. I've done it on other cars and they work great.

What's this jute91 spine extension you speak of? I'll have to send him a PM.

I do live in Michigan and most iXs around me don't live very happy lives. Where they are driven in the snow and put away for the summers. So they rust rust rust. This car is not from Michigan but not all that far away.

                              Yours looks minty. :-)
