I've heard people do that with E36's to make it easier to yank out. Keep up the good work.Leave a comment:

Not difficult. Didn't cut any wires. Everything was unhooked via connectors. I later went through and harvested pigtails though....mostly so I can use the stock wiring connectors in the new home for this engine.
I also literally cut the front off the car. Made it soopah easy.Leave a comment:

Slammin' finished something....
So I disassembled an 850 for a friend.

In 6 hours it was nothing but a rolling hulk....with subframe fasteners loosened for easy removal pre-scrapping.

...and in the end, I got this:

...and oily, greasy ball of aluminum.
Plan is to reseal it. About $300 in gaskets, etc. Missing some hardware on the upper timing cover, hopefully not broken off....
Probably end up doing a timing chain, guides, basically everything I can do without removing the heads....but should I find something like a broken head bolt.....I'll go there.
I've made up my mind what this engine is going in to. I'm hesitant to say. It'll pretty much bolt in with the right bell housing, if that gives any indication. Also it'll be easier to install this engine than to put an M60 in an e30.....
