    just found this thread....

i am a prior owner of this car. it was built up by a guy in central virginia. he sold it to a guy in baltimore who did not do anything with it for a few years. i bought it, drove it for six months, then stripped all the good parts out of it down to a bare shell. sold the shell to another 2002 owner who put a bunch of spare parts on it to try to make it a car again. sat in a shop in MD for a few years before it moved to florida.

    it was a great car at one point. the engine i took out of it lives in another restored 2002 in ohio. the engine had been built by a legendary M10 builder in the 80's. the car also had;
    5spd tranny ( now in my M2)
bilstein/ST suspension (now in friends 2002 tii)
volvo/320 brake system upgrade (now in CA 2002)
3.91 LSD (now in yet another 2002)
some suite recaro seats (now in 2002 in new england)
VDO guages ( in my car)
i could go on....everything on the car but the shell was old but top notch, and i stripped it all out.

here is slide show of pics from when i owned it 5+ years ago.

That's cool to know that it has had an interesting history. Yeah when I picked it up, it had basically been given up on. It hadn't been driven for a few years to my understanding. Everything good was stripped from the car & just the rusty shell remained with a ton of boxes full of spare parts inside of it. I've slowly been chipping away at it, trying to make it better.

Yeah right haha. Too bad I picked the car up at it's lowest point and not when it had a bunch of cool stuff :(

Don't ask Marshall how many 02s he's had. Don't even look at this build thread. You'll likely go to sleep tonight depressed and ready to cry.

I've seen a lof of Marshall 's posts on 2002faq, his m2 build is insane!

In other news, I picked up a set of Simpson 5pt harnesses earlier to day. New in box, just expired. I also mounted the seat, dropped the radiator back in, bled the coolant system, and got it registered

What are you going to do about the hood, trunk and roof? I am fairly confident you have seen Phreshkid's 1600 build. I think he got the primer off of his with graffiti remover, what ever he used might take off the house paint on yours.

I have seen his thread, and I've located the graffiti remover at my home depot. I haven't bought any yet though, and didn't want to comment about it until I had. When I try it out I'll post some pics. I'm not sure how well it's going to work on house paint. Plus the trunk/hood have white paint on their inner skins, so I feel like they're not original to the car(aka not malaga)

I have tossed around the idea of going two tone or respraying the car. I'm not sure which route I want to take yet I kind of want to keep the patina, but I wish it was more uniform on the car

Have you considered getting them blasted? might create more work than you want but just another option for stripping paint.

For your sake I hope that the hood and trunk are Malaga underneath. But you know the roof if proper so even if you paint the hood and trunk some kind of black. I still think it would look a lot better that way, than it is now. The hood line trim up black with black fender flares would probably look good. Ask somebody on here to photo shop some ideas for you.

I haven't actually. I'll look into pricing, that'd save me a lot of time. Thanks for the tip!

I hope so too. The pictures Myrtle posted show that it had a malaga colored hood, trunk, and roof when he owned it. I guess he painted it with the house paint Yes! I have thought about doing everything above that trim line black, including the roof. That way it would be a little more uniform looking than this patchy paint job haha.
