Will post an update this weekend, I have been super busy with some side projects and will be this weekend but I hope to at-least finish the trans tunnel, which is almost done, and then get onto other parts of the car finally

I am going back and forth on the seats, part of me wants to use the Recaro trophies I picked up for it a few years ago, super comfy and still light weight. And part of me says fuck it put the corbeau seats in it. I am not sure yet.

Haha the pic of that seat looks exactly like my vintage corbeau except no head support.

Not my seat but a pic of some like it

Alright so I made some progress today, got the trans brace mounted and installed, I didnt get a pic of it installed tho...and then I got the trans tunnel pretty much built, all thats left to do is finish up the welds and clean them up and seal it. Should have all that done next weekend and then onto mounting the fuel cell.

Gonna leave the hole on the left so I can make sure the final angle of the selector rod on the shifter isn't too extreme, shouldn't be but this is the only way ill be able to tell.

Also picked up these seats from e30_pare

They are super rough, but got them for a good price and gonna bring them to an upholsterer tuesday to get them all fixed up, I think something like this will look good in the 02

I feel ya man, I always go a bit overkill on almost everything I build as well. Sometimes it's just fun to build something how you want it, even if it isn't really the most efficient or economical way to go about it. Well you can rest assured that your trans will be planted in place for many years to come.

Truthfully this may sound crazy, but the reason for cutting the bottom of the tubing was for three reasons, 1, I dont think it needs that much strength, 2, so water or grim cant get stuck in it and 3, I didnt want the typical taper that is inside of a u beam, in theory a u beam should be exactly the same as what I had after cutting the side off. But in actuality you are left with the following.

Which to do my speed holes in the side would have taken twice the amount of time because I wouldn't have been able to drill straight through.

I tested the design out in cad sim before building it, the metal is twice the thickness of a stock e30 trans mount, and still with the speed holes retains twice the strength. It is however twice the weight. But it is twice the size as it needs to be to stretch the width of my transtunnel

I'm assuming it's because OP wanted to use a U channel for this, but didn't want to go out and buy one. Also probably so it doesn't catch/hold water. I doubt that's an issue with all those holes though
