    89 copper e30 paint/rebuild/turbo!!

Thought I'd finally start a build thread! I will catch you guys up from when I bought the car to now! Open to all recommendations/offers/help! I have a 89 325i bought the car with 105,000mi, the car started out in overall good condition. No rust, no leaks, maintenance was up to date, interior extremely clean! Only thing I could find wrong was the driveshaft support bearing was bad and left front wheel bearing was bad.
I'm already quite far into the build but far from done I'm sure.

    So far I have:
Disassembled car and painted the car in a custom mix me and my uncle made.
New rims/tires brand-avid 1 unsure of model kinda forget. They are just a cheap rim I threw on it for the meantime but I actually love the way they look and didn't really have to do any fitment!
Bilstein shocks/H&R spring combo. They actually came with the car but never installed. They seem to do a very good job!
Replaced windshield (has been a bitch to find one not cracked. Ordered two brand new ones and they both have a small little chip in the bottom) called the company and he said he would need to do some looking and give me a call back and we all know that he doesn't call back so I said screw it and put the chipped glass in. It mainly gets covered by the glass weather seal. I'll need to follow up on that soon!

About a month ago I noticed that typical m20 tic get louder and louder. I couldn't find anything so to be honest I just kinda ignored it and sure enough it starts misfiring and hardly running so I took the valve cover off and two rocker arms broken. So I pulled the head off and was going to fix it and I examined the head and noticed it was cracked! I just bought a new reconditioned stock 885 head.
So I wasn't planning on going this far with it, but I ended up pulling the rest of the engine to examine it and clean up the engine bay. One thing turns into another now I'm getting ready to stroke the engine. Eta crank. Eagle rods. JE pistons. (Haven't ordered yet but getting ready to) and what I'm working on now is shaving the engine bay. Making some templates, deleted brackets.
I also scrubbed/de-greased the block and took a scotchbright disk to it and painted the oil pan/block (you can see where I got carried away with the scotchbright disk) that's kind of a quick sum up of where I'm at right now. Here's some pics:

    When I bought car:

Getting it buttoned up and on the road:

All I have time to do tonight will keep you posted as I move along.

Nice color! But don't agree on the black oil pan, eventually it will be hard spot leaks..

No contrast to see oil leaks. Light colors show the dark fluids leaking better.

Ahh didn't even think of that I will probably end up changing it when I take the pan back off! Thanks!

Whats goin on with your pictures?

I think I like the color, but it needs something. Maybe its because you're still missing a lip and the engine bay isnt painted yet...or I dunno. I think its heading in the right direction though. Keep it up

I am really enjoying these bronze/copper/brown metallic colors on vehicles. Keep up good work.

Sorry about pictures, they were on my old phone so I had to send them to this phone and screen shot them. All upcoming pictures will be better since I will be posting them directly.
I'm shaving the bay right now which I plan to post pictures soon. They will be painting! But thanks!

A shaved bay with this color should look good...

                        89 copper e30 paint/rebuild/turbo!!

So I am shaving the bay right now. I deleted most of the brackets, made templates and getting it ready to tac-weld it in and seem seal it.

Sprayed bay with trim black and weld-through primer. Where I am welding bare metal.

Deleted battery tray or whatever that is

                        With templates in place

Getting ready to tac weld in place and I'm not keeping the bay black i just got a little carried away with the trim black lol

Once I tac the templates in I will smooth the bay then prep and paint.

I am not spraying bay same color as car. I'm spraying it gold same as the color of rims with a little flake in it. Yeah some may not agree with that but I think it will look great. May not be your style but I like the idea!

Great photos of the shaving process. How much are you going to tuck?

Haven't quite decided yet. Haven't seen much on tucking process beside front headlight ect. Loom. If you know more info about it or any aftermarket harness it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

                              Just bought some new parts!

                              -ARP head studs
-Girdling front calipers powder coated red by powerstop (has anyone heard of theses? Any opinions?)
-evolution ceramic brake pads (came with powerstop kit with calipers! Opinions?)
-drilled and slotted front rotors (also came in powerstop brake kit)
-stab links just stock ones right now. (want to do adjustable stabs once I have car driving)
                              -water pump
                              -tensioner
-center support bearing (since mine is shot)
-duralast timing belt (thinking about running the gates belt. Any opinions?)

Brake wise only have front components, will do rear when I'm up to that point. I got the kit for a really good price otherwise would have done a "big brake kit" ... Also will do all new lines when installed, will prob do copper but thinking about doing stainless lines but I heard there a bitch to bend.

                              Powerstop kit

Looking at getting forged rods and custom Pistons in the next week or so

P.S sorry for all the pictures but if your like me I like pictures lol
