M60b40 powered Volvo 240

Just won this bad boy at an auctionI put in the bid not thinking I was gonna win, but no one else placed a bid.
1980 Volvo 264gl(264 usually had 6 cylinders but in 80-81 they offered them with the 4 cylinder)








The plan is to get it running and driving, and drive it around for awhile to fix all the small problems it will probably have not related to the engine/trans.

Interested to see how this progresses. I recently picked up a 86 wagon with the 4sp and I've been going back and forth on what to do with it.

This is my 3rd 240, my first one was a wagon, I was 17 and I destroyed the poor thing, and though it was gold when I tried to sell it. it ended up selling for $200 haha. this is my first non wagon.

So I got it home, and man this thing has been out in the elements for a long time.











But I have found 0 rust on the body

I found it had a dead battery so I tossed that on the charger over night, The next day I tried to fire it up, with no success. I pulled the plugs and found them to be Autolites.... so they went in the trash along with all the ignition parts.




I bought new
-Bosch coil
-Bosch cap
-Bosch rotor
-Ngk Plugs
-Bougi wires(oem?)



No luck, still no spark. I also decided to look in to see if i was getting fuel. Nada. i opened up the fuel pump relay and was able to press the relat closed and could hear the pump turn on. which gives me hope.

Tossed a new fuel pump relay, pulled the injector, no spray.

This point I have posted up on Turbobricks, I think its between the distributor or the ICM. both have play in the fuel pump from what the guys over there are telling me.
The annoying this is tossing money in to the engine when it will likely be out by summer, oh well

Well this clearly isn't right, IDK how this could have happened. this must have been why it ended up sitting for so long and then ended up at the auction
Jesus that was such a pain to pull that out, it must have never been pulled.
From what i have been reading, the distributor not only gives signal to the coil to spark, but also gets the fuel pump going(?)
needless to say ill be ordering a used one off ebay
Feels like im getting closer to getting this ting running, which means im closer to pulling the oil dripping 2.1lt with Kjet goodness and popping in 24 valves of Bavarian fury

Why not find a better motor for the 318 and swap that M50 into this turd.

Because i JUST finished that swap hahah, the e30 is becoming my girlfriends car, she would kill me if I pulled that engine out again, she wants it back haha.
And I have seen m50s go for ~$2-300 dollars around these parts, I like the idea of all three cars of mine having the exact same engine.

Alright, so since I'm waiting on a distributor to come in the mail, time to start cleaning.
Started first busy pulling the seats


Already starting to make my money back.

Jesus there was a good 100 pens in this car.
I also have it on good authority that the past owner was a drunk, I found 2 wine bottle openers, and 10 of those metal things before the cork on a wine bottle.


Looks like besides a small rust spot on the hole in the floor where the carpet mounts, the pans are solid

Sorry for the bad pictures, my drop light took a shit and I had to use a flashlight.
The front carpet section was trash, rips from a heal and stains. It's in the garbage.
The rear I was able to clean up and it's will be going back in

The rear seat has two small rips that I plan on stitching for the time being, later I'll try to get late model seats, I like the fabric they used them more

My hope is to make it to the junk yard this weekend to pick up the carpet

To say the trunk was disgusting would be an understatement. There was about 5 inches of stagnate water on the passenger side, a good amount of trash, and plant life every square inch.



All scrubbed(or at least as much as I cared to do)

Yeah $70 is what I won it for, after auction fees and a tow I got it in my driveway for $300, which still I can't bitch about

Next
I found a distributor on eBay,
I know condition, found in garage from estate. Matched the Bosch numbers and made an offer.
I got it to my house in 2 days for $33


Installing it was a little weird at first, use to m20 where you don't really have a distributor in the sense that you don't need to find TDC, and M50s where they are coil over plug, I haven't played with distributors much.

But.....
