FIXING THESE DREADED VALVE COVERS. I spent many, many hours on these,

I know your pain. I was doing the same thing with the M50 valve cover and it took so many hours to get remotely close to a "SMOOTH" finish. Ending up selling the car before I finished it. Its his problem now haha
