Thanks... with the lighting it makes this mess look pretty nice lol
Short day at work meant more garage time. About 2 hours in and I was ready to tackle the manifolds and pretty much everything else was done...

another two hours and the only thing left now is to pull the head

and finally a comparison shot from the day prior

set the motor to TDC, but it looks like Im 180 out. pics for reference

dont mind the dirty engine bay, I might clean that too if I have downtimeLast edited by 2mAn; 12-31-2018, 08:01 PM.Leave a comment:

Well, technically any and all my cars are pretty much always for sale, but the price is never what anyone would realistically give me, so ... I move on!... haha
SO anyways, ever since I bought the car (actually before I even bought it!) Will had been telling me this motor needs a rebuild, its going to explode, that chain isnt going to last, etc etc... being an idiot, Ive sort of ignored it for the last 18 months and 2500 miles, but with 2019 around the corner and plans to actually track the car, the last thing I want is Wills voice in my head saying its going to explode.
So after once last drive, not a fun one sadly, I pulled the car into the garage and put it up on the jackstands. I basically have myself prepped and ready to pull the front end off the car, to do the chain and gears. "While Im in there" Im also going to send the head off to a machine shop that comes highly recommended and after speaking with them, Im feeling confident that they will give me good results. They also have a small window before February when they are basically not taking any work, so nows the time. I have a half day of work tomorrow and will be busting my butt into the new year and new years day. I want the head off the car by the end of this week.
With that said, I cant leave you without a few pics since you may or may not have read what I wrote.

Before you all start yelling at me about the fact that Im not pulling the motor out of the car to do the gears and chain, its simply not in the cards.I dont have the space or access to any of those things, so yes I plan to leave the block in the car and make this job a lot harder than it needs to be.
I will need your words of encouragement and if you feel like you need to warn me now so that later you "told you so" go ahead, but please add something constructive to it. Lord knows I need any and all of the help I can going down this unchartered territory.Leave a comment:

Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed the noise as much as I do. Im hoping to get some work done soon so that the noise matches the pace of the vehicle
I have to replace the timing chain and gears, which will require the head to come off, so I plan to have someone go through it and hopefully add a bigger cam too.
In addition to that, I will replace the current 3.7 rear end with a 3.9 ... I also picked up a 4.375 rear end that I plan to build up with a LSD unit and stash for race duties :devil:Leave a comment:

My last free weekend in a while and I didnt quite accomplish my goal, but made some good progress. The beautifully powdercoated roll bar I got from Harlan didnt have any lower plates, so I got my hands on some metal from a friend. Seems to be a nice thickness. I still dont have power in my garage, so I setup shop in the back corner of our balcony. Made plenty of dust, noise and only went a little more deaf.

In the end I had two plates for the main hoop, and a long piece for the diagonals.

This roll bar is the same exact style that the car came with, but sadly my hopes of predrilled holes that lined up were shotdown. Not sure if/ how this bar can be stretched to fit, so I will likely have to drill a few new holes in the body... add lightness amirite?
I still need to finish drilling the holes in the plates to match the holes in the bar, but heres a little preview

My plan for this roll bar and the plates is to do something similar to what the 44 car had done to attach the roll bar to the frame. I think RustBucket has similar plans and had spoken to some techs about it, so I think with some debate, I can get these approved for use. At least for HPDE use while I get closer to full race status.

In other news, my progress with the fabric and matching seat is looking good. Ive managed to connect with the Beard family and they may have some fabric left that will be an exact match for my seat. Im not sure if I should use it to cover that plastic Jegs seat so the two seats look exactly the same, or if I should be a single, FIA seat for the driver and use the material so they "match" and move this over to the pass side. Leaning towards the FIA seat right now... Hopefully I will have the material one of these daysLeave a comment:
