    The Ebola 30

Purchased this gem in January 2018. Ive been on the hunt for a "cleanish" E30 for the past year 1/2 to 2 years but living in Iowa they are either completely rusted, beat to hell, or way out of my price range.

Here are pics from the previous owner took.

And here it is the day I drove it home with the bottle caps and studded snow tires installed. There is sat until I was able to make space in my garage (until the snow was gone so I could park my E90 outside).

Simon fixed the pictures, thanks dude.

I switched my hosting from Photobucket to Google Photos and am having trouble with the host URLs. I needs my own hosting server, this is ridiculous ...

Here is a shot of the engine bay. I took it to a local BMW shop and had it put on a lift so I could see where to start. The underside was almost completely covered in oil and grime. The engine appeared to be leaking from the oil pan, head gasket, valve cover gasket, and cam gear gasket. Basically leaking from almost every gasket it could leak from (my wife compared my car to the ebola virus, hence the cars nickname).

The previous owner did decent maintenance on the car. (Example: replaced water pump but didn't bother to do timing belt. Replaced valve cover but didn't bother to check valve clearance. Etc.)
So I bought a lot of replacement parts from FCP Euro.

Snow finally melted and was able to drive this thing down to my place and begin fixing the leaks. Also bought a Thule bike rack on Craigslist for cheap.

First things first. Remove that terrible tint banner. They were cool when I was in high school.

Next I started removing the pin striping. I guess it used to be red pin striping but someone painted white over the top? This is kind of strange. Oh well, the extra thickness made it a little easier to remove it. Also found out someone tried re-clear coating the back quarter panel of the car because they clear coated right over the pin striping. Awesome.

Removed the hood to getting more room to work on the engine. Made good use of the bike rack.

Coolant drained. Radiator and fan out. I cannot believe how much coolant these things have in them! Good grief.

This explains why I wasn't able to relieve the tension on my AC Compressor. Looks like it has smokers lung!

Small update. I was digging around looking for other random treasures the previous owner may have left in the car. That led to the glove box to see which ECU I had. Low and behold it looks like someone updated my DME! This makes me super happy!

Reason for lack of updates is my dog hurt her back (typical for dachshunds) and between pain meds and laser treatments it is consuming all my "fun money". Such is life. Here is a pic of her after her ER visit.

looks like she is taking a selfie lol
Best wishes to her! My family had a dachshund for almost 12 years and that was one lucky dog. One day her back legs quit working and my dad had to build her a wheelchair using the wheels off my old scooter. After taking steroids for about a month she just randomly got up and started walking one day, never seen a dog so happy. Hope all goes well.
