I absolutely love E34 Tourings and occasionally scour CL for one, would take a very similar approach to you if I found one. One of those "one day" builds on my list. Didn't realize they don't have steering racks, that's interesting.

Nice work so far, keep it up!

Thanks guys, and ArtFoodBMW your build was definitely some inspiration for me to even find a e34 touring!

So today it was raining on and off so I didn't get much work done. Ya right, little bit of rain never hurt anyone. I had to stop working maybe twice when it started to really come down but besides that it was a decent day.

I dropped the engine/ trans as one piece.. Tons of room to do this on a e34, especially when you have a manual transmission attached since its shorter then the auto. I was a bit worried but figured I'd give it a shot dropping it all as once piece. I bought a Valeo single mass flywheel kit which included a new clutch, throw out bearing, flywheel obviously, ect. Cost about $420 shipped to the door, not bad. Obviously did the rear main seal at the same time.

I also started working on the wiring harness. Got my 1995 M3 (506 label ECU) installed, the X20 body harness connector plugged in, all that good stuff. Even re wrapped the harness a bit with some Tesa tape where the harness tape was loose. Few small hiccup's with the VANOS harness being installed in my Non VANOS car. I took a picture bellow, the bracket that goes next to the ECU to hold the "wiring harness grommets" securely is different. No big deal, I'll get the correct harness bracket at a junkyard next time I go. It's all done though, wiring's complete/ all hooked up now (besides the MAF, TPS, ect. of course). Let's hope she'll be on the road by next weekend?

Lastly I installed new fuel lines.

Oh ya forgot to mention I went back to the yard parting that e34 M5 and picked up the rear sway bar. Stock these wagons have a 25mm Front/ 15mm Rear. E34 M5 has a 25mm Front/ 18mm Rear. Should be a nice little upgrade.

The rain was pretty bad today, I'd work for 10min and have to run inside. Kept starting up on and off for most of the afternoon..

I did get some work done though. Intake manifold is back on along with all new vacuum lines, fuel hoses, manifold gaskets, ect. Damn near every coolant hose was replaced as well, FCP Euro sells a e34 coolant hose kit so I bought that. After getting everything back together I ran over to the junkyard and grabbed a MAF sensor from a e36 325i. The 325i uses the same part number MAF as a 1995 M3 (S50 engine). The non VANOS cars use a different MAF vs the cars equipped with VANOS, which is why I needed to change it out. You just unscrew the MAF from the airbox and bolt in the new one.

Lastly I installed a silicon intake boot. Wow what a pain.. I bought it from COSMO Racing, it's a e36 intake boot however they include a little "T fitting" to adapt for use on the e34 upon special request. I think it's more designed for use with a aftermarket airfilter vs the stock airbox but regardless I got it to fit well enough after trimming the boot a bit.

                Picked up a e34 touring - S50 Swap

More work done! I bolted the AC compressor onto the engine, installed the radiator/ last few new coolant hoses, replaced the O rings on the expansion tank and a little surprise.. I found a S50 M Power cover! A co worker of mine spotted it for sale somewhat locally so I took the 30 mile drive down last night to pick that up. He actually had a S50 and S52 cover available. A little bit of cash and beers exchanged hands and both covers were mine. Thanks dude

Started swapping diffs today after work. The wagon originally came with a 4.10LSD but e34's are kinda weird. The input flange on the diff is different between cars with automatic and manual transmissions. In other words, if you 5 speed swap a e34 your basically forced to change out the differential cause your new manual transmission driveshaft won't bolt up to the original diff. I grabbed a 3.23LSD from a manual transmission e34 at one of the yards so that's what I'm putting in the wagon.

So once again its a rainy weekend here in the Bay Area. The good news is the rain stopped around 7pm. That means it's time for me to get some much needed work done :D. I laid down on my creeper, which I hate using but the ground is wet.. and went to town. Yesterday I was outside until a little after 10pm, I really want to get this thing on the road.

Shiftier linkage is all back in, fully rebuilt. Driveshaft installed, 3.23LSD, reverse light harness, heatshield. Just need to tidy the inside of the car up (I still need to install the kick panel which I never got back on after installing the pedals), bleed the clutch, few small things. She's getting damn close!

So I've been working basically non stop for the past 2 days.. And shes now a runner/ driver . Yesterday I was out in the rain hanging the exhaust by myself. Seriously though, no fun. Today on the other-hand we had some pretty nice weather, still cold but no rain.

I rebuilt the injectors, new fuel lines, swapped out the neutral safety relay for the correct relay found in manual transmission cars and cranked her over. Started first try! I also got a new ECU box/ cover. The non vanos cars use a different box so I grabbed the proper one at the junkyard along with a few other bits.

Pictures speak for themselves, but she's basically done. Time to focus on cosmetics such as the headliner, ect. I also have some euro smiley's coming in the mail from Germany.

Hopefully she'll make a nice daily/ parts hauler. I still have tons of plans with this thing.. I have some smiley's coming in the mail and a turner motorsport chip to hopefully wake her up a bit. I found an original BMW Keyless entry module from a e34 at the junkyard that I plan to install. I also still need to put in the M5 front brakes and M5 rear sway bar I picked up off that parts car in Santa Cruz..
