Short update!
Spent all weekend taking the motor apart...I need to order more gaskets, I thought I had everything :(
Onto the pics!
Where it happens baby!!

Tranny (guess which is one is which)

On the stand:

Valve Cover off:

Block:

Head off:

Block:

So I have a 3.25 LSD that I'm picking up this weekend and I will hopefully put the motor back together over the weekend as well.
I have almost everything I need to get the swap going :)
So I've been slowing degreasing the accessories, nuts and bolts.
I've been using the Simple Green car wash green gooey stuff and it works better than the degreaser!
I threw all of small shit in a bucket full of mineral spirits, I hope the stuff will clean up well..
Any recommendations on how to clean the block and prep it for high temp paint, what about the accessories?Last edited by dude8383; 09-17-2010, 07:15 AM.IG: deniso_nsi Leave me feedback here

Well, cover up the top of the engine so crap doesn't get in. :D
I've painted a couple of engines so far and I've just used a scraper to dislodge the heaviest buildup of crud, then a steel brush and engine degreaser to remove the remaining oils. Finally a washdown with some brake parts cleaner, and then you're ready for paint.

How do I protect the piston's and the cylinder walls from any over spray?Well, cover up the top of the engine so crap doesn't get in. :D

I was thinking some saran wrap and painters tape.
Yes indeed! I've been thinking about it for the longest time. Finally I'm there but I've got a long road ahead of me!
I just found out that the build up of crud around the cylinders is due to the motor burning oil! Now I have to pretty much do a full rebuild - not something I had planned on doing!!!!
I'm pretty pissed, but also happy that the motor is still on an engine stand....BUT I'm still pissed that I have drop a shit load more money into this :(
Yes you are =) That is Sam's 318i sedan. No work has begun on the dschwarz car because he still drives it!IG: deniso_nsi Leave me feedback here

Excuse my ignorance, but what does "2nd oversize" for the pistons mean? (From the BMR parts description)
Cool project. I hope it comes together well for you. I hate those hidden costs... the ones that don't show up until you take something apart.1987 E30 325is

I believe that this is the next measurement in line after the standard bore size.
