Make the MR2 right and have a trackworthy car with which you can afford track time instead of an expensive unicorn canyon carver which is falling apart, a description which fits much of what is in this thread.
Im on the fence about keeping or selling my wagon. I just got the detents done and a new clutch, shift bushings etc and it still doesnt excite me. Not sure what its lacking, but I still have a windshield to replace along with a few other things before I do anything. I came to my senses about the S54, the M54 is exactly what this wagon needs when it comes to low down torque
edit: Alfa on BaT also sold for more than I wanted to spend on it, so thats officially out
Hmm, this is why I've gone back and forth on an E46 in general. I haven't even driven one (manual wagon or zhp) and I don't know if it will do the "fizz" or keep me happy enough to own it. Time will tell in hopefully a month or two when I really start test driving things (incl an egolf).
That 1300 Super sold for under market. $17.5k is cheap and, while not perfect, that car isn't bad. If you want a Super cheaper nowadays... good luck. It was probably hiding some rust but I didn't see anything Earth-shattering in the pics.
There are still some deals out there- I know of a 911T for under $30k that's complete but disassembled. I can't pass it on because I'm in the process of acquiring it for a customer.
Shoot me a PM if there are numbers that make sense for you for other vintage cars- we get offered all sorts of things and I'd love to be able to help a fellow enthusiast out. No bullshit like finder's fees- if someone offers me a car you want at a price that makes sense, I'll just connect you with them.
I have the book and the funds to build a Locost. If you dig around on their forum you might find a thread from ~5-6 years ago of another stillborn project... which is what this would be.
Im guessing its 5 o'clock where you are because you must be drunk
My wife gets car sick quite easily so Id be better off in a single seater kamikaze machine than those things hahah
My heart still wants that Giulia up in NorCal but the rust scares me. Id definitely be overpaying according to 100% of the people you ask on AlfaBB
I think its time to move to the next logical step up the ladder VW-> BMW-> ??? haha The little fling with the MR2 was fun, tempted to go back for more, but maybe its time to join the big dogs
An MR2 is basically a Cayman, which probably fits your budget, but for the same money you could kit build a Locost 7 type of machine if such a thing is viable in CA.
There are so many neat things nearish to you, maybe some of these won't fit in the garage, but you could probably use a break from decent automobiles in any case. Maybe switch to off-roading where the fam can come along?

Just had an idea... should I just S54/ 6speed BAR legal swap my wagon?
I've personally been thinking about this route. Friend picked up a super low mile M3 (SMG). It's cool, but I like the practicality of a ZHP sedan more, which has made me think about a manual wagon with the end possible dream being an S54 in one.
I keep going back and fourth about an E46 Wagon, much like E30s they are hard to find in decent shape then you have to pay a premium in this market. I feel like I'd need to have an E46 for a week to find out if it's really what I'd want, then decide if one with more power was the ticket.
