Just noticed some changes (additions/reorganizations) and the speed and page load seem to have pretty great improvements over just a few days ago. Thanks for all your work and time on this James and crew.

I didn't hear about this conference call, but would be interested if there are future ones. I'm not super active right now with the broken leg and christmas coming up but would be nice to give back.





50/50 on the discord. I am in the r/E30, MS41/MS4X "BMW Tuning", Logger.S, and some other discords, and as soon as they get much over 100 people they kind of go to shit. There are always ~2 people talking about something and you'll come back to 100+ messages and it buries anything useful.
Still really mod dependent, otherwise it ends up like the r/r30 discord where every channel is effectively the "Off Topic" channel.

Definitely better than a facebook group or subreddit, because you can subdivide into channels like subforums, search decently, and you can sticky/thread topics within any channel, but it would probably suck for a build thread.

Could definitely do DIYs as a single channel and have each DIY posted as a thread.

yeah, like the man said, Discord is a chat, not a knowledge repository.

iuno. i personally see some value in it, but that's largely because social media has become such a fucking cesspool that i quit both facebook and twitter. at least that would be a collection of like-minded individuals centered around a purpose. if one were magicked into existence, it'd make me bother to install the client on my linux laptop.

I am just curious and have not read through the entirety of this thread, but is there a Discord for R3vlimited? If not would it provide value to add people from Facebook and directly link them to R3vlimited via discord?

I know there is a discord for other forums like speeduino. I am not sure how effective they are at directing traffic, but it might be worth a shot.

I meant it more as a chat room.

I find the pm's on r3v take a good bit of time for people to see them and respond. Discord might allow for some people to talk via voice or reference portions of the r3vlimited forum. I've used r3v a ton as a tool to work on my E30 and share what I've done. I would hate for this place to close down and would like to see more users on it like when I first joined.

Hi everyone! Trying to be more present around here in the near future, but I wanted to recap on a few discussion topics several of us had over the phone last week

1) Additional moderators have been put into place ot help relieve some forum spam
2) I've activated another tier of forum spam integration (Stop Forum Spam) which is API based and tied to new user creation
3) Attachments have been moved out of the database and into the web server file system, which at the moment is showing a reduction in database load and (for me at least) makes the site seem snappier
4) We are looking into other software options, such as XenForo
5) Discussing a vision for R3V moving forward was a large part of our discussion and we are looking into (and taking feedback) on ideas / steps.

My goal is to develop a plan that will allow R3V to dynamically grow and support itself without being held up by myself.

We also picked up a few new mods, which should help with the spam situation.

As a mere mortal I have no clue how to do it... I only have the powers I do because I annoyed people every 1st of the month for Car of the Month... oh yea I should probably update Decembers lol... I just got the details (I think)
