If you really don't need anything close to civilization, there are so many cheap rural places in the US outside of snowbelt places

Yeah with a fair amount of Canadian friends I've heard a lot about how bad your housing market is. Appalachia is where its at. You have to find a good community though, some are incredibly welcoming and hospitable, others have been hit hard with the opioid crisis and the poverty is bad due to very little opportunity making them a bit rough. TN/NC/Northern GA are all really great for twisties and generally being left alone. Asheville area is great but traffic is brutal (think Toronto scaled down a bit) due to a large influx of people without enough time to build up the infrastructure.Inflation is pretty wild here in Canada.
Can't get a McDonalds meal for one person for under $20. Literally double the price compared to 10 years ago.
I have given up on the idea of solo home ownership. Houses in not-so-desirable areas that were 250k 5 years ago are 650k+ today.
My plan is eventually to find somewhere in the USA with cheap land, and set up a trailer while I build a garage.
Preferably somewhere with no road salt and plenty of twisty roads.
Likely won't be until I retire though.1989 JDM-Tech 2

My long-term plan right now is to buy a motorhome and enclosed trailer for the motorcycle, and tour some of the potential areas in the USA.

I could do this before I retire and get a feel of what areas would be good to live.
Maybe I will have a Motorhome restoration thread on here in the future!

Build a motovan now! Why wait? The wife and I like going to RV shows just to check out what companies are making nowadays, layouts, etc. and I always come to the conclusion "we could stay in X amount of hotels for the price of this thing"
That being said I do enjoy owning things and getting to tinker with them and make it my own.
Old motorhomes and Airstreams are so cool when restored.1989 JDM-Tech 2

Considering selling my Miata with a blown up engine (will keep the turbo parts for future use). Might also sell the M3 depending on what the markets are doing.

Re: Canadian real estate, prices seem to be coming down.
I think this is only the beginning of the curve. Not saying there's going to be a "crash" but there's a massive amount of housing (mostly condos and apartments) that's only beginning to come online. Over the past year I've started to see a lot of houses sitting on the market for a long time, selling for under, or asking price dropping significantly.
Like a tear-down two streets over:
Sold 2024, asking 350, sold 410 after 9 days.
Listed July 2025 asking 470, dropped down to 415 by end of year and now it's cancelled because they don't want to be upside down on it.
I investigated the idea of a commercial/industrial shop to go splits with some friends but it was impossible to find anything under $16 psf/y. And at that price, there were extras or major issues with the space. I think it just doesn't make sense for what I'd use it for.Originally posted by priapismMy girl don't know shit, but she bakes a mean cupcake.Originally posted by shamesonUsually it's best not to know how much money you have into your e30Comment
