I am guessing the cop had the correct VIN for your car and a positive ID on you so the rest of the mistakes would not matter.
I understand the concept of not pissing a cop off that you live around. Just be sure to know that I am not at 44 advacating or condoning what I did back then as a stupid kid. I haven't run from cops in over twenty-one years, maybe longer When I was about twenty-one back before eluding was a felony I ran and got away from a cop in the town where my father retired from the military at. It wasn't the first and probably not the last time I did it. He was going to give my a Bull Shit ticket as a lot of the cops their like to do and I knew I could get away from him so I did. About an hour later I saw him pull up behind me on the teenage drag in the town and he followed me for about two or so miles. I knew he was the probably officer that I had run from so I was on my best behavior. I also knew he was about to pull me over so I forced the issue by legally changing lanes in heavy traffic. He was in a bad mood when he came up to the car and we did get into it. He searched my car for beer and anything else he could find but I didn't have anything that would get me into trouble. Finally he had to let me go but he didn't like it.
About six months later he nailed me in another part of town and I know he still remembered me because I was still driving the same car. That is one big speeding ticket that I did not get any breaks on but fortunately back then the tickets were much cheaper than today. That time he had caught me redhanded in board daylight so I pulled over a quietly took my medicine and paid the ticket.
BTW the ticket he would have given me originally was for circling in a private drive. He was sitting in the dark in a grocery store parking lot with know lights on waiting for someone to circle in the quick shop across the street. When I saw him because I knew they did this I decided to go through the light and around the block but the light turned yellow when I was entering the intersection so I went through the neighborhood which I knew like the back of my hand and lost him. He never even got close to me. I now know and belive that doing that was extremely dangerous but at that age we all believe we are bullet proof. I have always had extremely good night vision so back then especially I could see really well even without my headlights on but I now realize that not everyone else can. I am thankful that I never hurt or killed myself or anyone else. I am not sure I could have lived with myself if I would have killed anyone.sigpic

You admitted your guilt in speeding, OP. That's a good start.
You have four options...
Pay it. This is the same as going to court and pleading guilty to the charge but saves you the hassle of actually going and the added expense of the court processing your plea.
Go to court and plead guilty. Same as above, but kicks in those added expenses and hassle.*
Go to court and plead not guilty. You'll be sworn in, asked for your testimony leading up to you being ticketed, and get the chance to question the ticketing officer for his version of the story. You'll be placing your faith in the judge; very very few traffic court cases are adjudicated by a jury. You'll pay the fine plus court costs if you're found guilty. You'll pay nothing if you're found not guilty.*
Go to court and plead guilty with an explanation. This has been described as lenience, deferral, probation before judgment, etc. You're essentially telling the court that you were wrong but wish to minimize the damage to your wallet and driving record by promising to behave from now on. If you are granted probation, you must stay clean for the entire probationary period... otherwise any new offense retroactively kicks this first offense back into play. You only get one of these in your driving career and it is usually only given by a generous judge to a first offender whom reeeeeally gives an impression that they've learned.*
* In any case where you go to court and the officer fails to show, traffic tickets are generally thrown out. In my county though, court appearances are overtime for the ticketing officers; it's free money and all they have to do is show up even none of the ticketed drivers do. I'm sorry to say I've received enough tickets to have enjoyed this benefit only twice in my twenty-three years of driving.
You're not "being a dick" to the officer by going to court; it's one of your Rights in our society. It is yours to exercise not some Internet hero's chance to crap on you.- Sco

If he does show up because you made him I doubt he is going to be a nice guy and not screw you like he can.
Just pay the $144, or better yet call him and talk to him about it. His desk # should be listed on the ticket or the forms you get in the mail.
Explain your situation and if he feels like it he may drop it down further.
If he doesn't, pay the fucking ticket! Don't be a retard and screw yourself over more you noob asshat. The Keystone Killers

If you take a cop, who apparently gave you a very generous break, to court he's going to do everything in his power to make it worse for you.
If it doesn't get thrown out you're going to have a cop that knows who you are, what car you drive, and will have the opportunity to fuck with you in the future.
Shut up, grow up, and be happy he didn't give you what you deserved in the first place. The Keystone Killers

Originally posted by Vrbovan View PostWOW way to go buddy! you fight that ticket, waste court time and resources. Take a Cop off the street to sit in court. all cuz you're a stupid kid who can't deal with punishment.
Ask the judge who he represents, it's the state. Guess what the court case is? You V the state. Conflict of interest IMO!
Originally posted by daniel View Postwhy don't you just ask for community service since it was your first ticket.
IMO, you are a kid. You are going to get tickets, cops/judges LOVE to target anyone under the age of 20 to "teach them a lesson". Yes you were speeding, yes the cop was nice to you, still try to fight it. Guilt isn't the issue here, minimizing the damage is. Also, never plead guilty or no contest. That automatically gets you guilty because you just admitted it.
Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

Take this one to court, and I guarantee the next one you get will be far cost way more for doing way less. Cops are doing a job and help people out when they can, when you start fucking them, they fuck you.Originally posted by george graves
Are you kidding me? That nerd doesn't even know how his dick works, let alone a car.

This is embarrassing to kids everywhere. It's a manifestation of this nation-wide trend (among all ages) of passing responsibility whenever possible. What's next? Are you going to spill hot McDonald's coffee on yourself and sue the place to cover the medical expenses "because it's your right"?
Man up and pay the ticket. Yeah it'll go on your record. But you know how you offset that? Don't do it again. It's that simple.
