What ever with the Obama birth certificate but since McCain was born in a US Military Base, its considered US soil.

^^^ Why would it need to be reworked?

Also, McCain was born on a military base, to U.S. Citizens. Therefore, as far as the law is concerned he was born on U.S. soil.

edit: damn, you all are quick.

I wasn't aware of that, good to know though.

Are you saying "whatever, it doesn't matter where Obama was born"?

Also last time I checked if both your parents are US citizens even if you are born abroad you are considered a natural born citizen.

The USA is one of (if not the only) country in world that grants citizenship for just being born on US soil. Its created the whole anchor baby mess and this is why other countries dont do it.

I can't watch those videos at the office, I'll watch them once I get home.

but ya, the whole Obama birth thing is frustrating, it makes everything seem extermely shady since he won't show his actual birth certificate and is holding it under lock and key.

Sorry for going backwards in the discussion here but I was under the impression that naturalizing illegal immigrants would be in all of our best interests. If for no other reason than making them pay taxes. Now granted there would be a proportion that would still be on government assistance but I see that as a separate issue that needs addressed regardless of the status of the immigrants. Now if "amnesty" in the sense your using it refers to something other than citizenship then I would be interested to find out what this plan entails but otherwise I feel that it's a better plan than building a modern version of the Berlin Wall at the southern border.

                    Well here's the thing.
My parents, and many other people who immigrated to America, have gone through the legal system to become legal citizens. They have to pay tens of thousands of dollars throughout the process.
Then you have these illegal immigrants who just jump the border and now the government is proposing to make them citizens and naturalize them without forcing them to go through the proper legal channels.
It's basically telling people that all they have to do is jump across the border and they'll save a bunch of money instead of doing it legally.
                    It's ridiculous.

Honestly if anything is ridiculous I think it's the fact that people have to pay thousands of dollars to emigrate here in the first place. I agree with you though that it should be the same whether you run across the desert or show up on an airplane. America should be the land of opportunity not the land of free lunch.

I am usually indifferent to all this politics, but I just came home from Milwaukee/Chicago trip and I've come to a conclusion on my political dilemma. Wisconsin and Illinois are quite possibly the most democratically ran states, and I absolutely hated what I saw.

Don't get me wrong, both places are beautiful, but at that cost, I'd never live there.

Some of the highest taxes in the Union, and everything is ran by unions. Teachers get paid at $100,000 per year, and they still picket-fence about EVERY-damn-thing. They spend more time protesting than teaching. The worst part, when elections come around, it's teachers that indoctrinate children that have the strongest political pull.

Roads are THE WORST anywhere in the world, and that's coming from a guy from former Soviet Union. They attribute that to snow, but somehow I doubt it snows there more than in Charleston, WV.

Wisconsin sold their nuclear power plant, while agreeing buying all of the electricity produced by that plant. Meanwhile they are building a new plant in South Milwaukee that won't be able to run (at full capacity, maybe even EVER), because that nuke plant is working at full capacity all the time to recoup their investment.

City of Milwaukee has handed out 1.2 million parking tickets last year to a population of 2 million people. Calculate that for yourself. People are afraid of police in the worst way. People don't brake any rules, and everything has a fine or tax associated with it.

Factories are abandoned, warehouses are open and empty. Unofficial unemployment is at 28%.

Farmers are paid by the state NOT to grow crops. I still can't bend my head around it, just thought it was very much fucked up.

Gas has 10% ethanol in it and gets worse mileage per gallon than normal gas and costs 15-20 cents more per gallon. Ridiculous.

NO BMWs. I drew a line there. I saw 2 e30 int he entire week up there. I've got to the lake and downtown nearly everyday for a week.

That's everywhere, not just up north.

When my dad's warehouse gets another shipment, I'll show you some pics of literally hundred's of thousand's of pound of dehydrated milk that is taken out of the system to keep the price of up.

You don't have to pay thousands of dollars to emigrate here, but you do pay money to go through the proper channels to become a green card holder, and then a US citizen.
But yes, it needs to be fair across the board. Either everyone pays the same amount, or everyone gets "free" citizenship. None of these bullshit handouts.

I agree 100% with that. My company often has to hire technical experts from other countries (mostly because the US doesn't offer good programs in this specialty) and is an international corporation so we obviously have people of many nationalities working for us. The company helps out with all the immigration/naturalization stuff for our people. It does cost a lot, mostly because you often need a lawyer who specializes in this stuff, and there are a lot of small fees to pay to the government for "processing" etc.

So in essence, we are punishing the people who are doing things legally... (doing it the right way) and we are giving handouts to those who do it the wrong way. There's some fairness for you.

Amnesty has been done before. The ONLY way I would support amnesty now (simply because we can then tax them and know how many there really are) is if we completely seal the damn boarders and strictly enforce immigration laws across the board. In other words, none of this San Fransisco crap of ignoring immigration status when they arrest people and all of that. Any form of amnesty does give the democrat party a whole lot more votes so I don't like that, but if we can't find a way to root all of these illegals out, then we might as well get them on the books.
