At any rate, it is a pretty dumb idea. As stated, most people driver clunkers because they cant afford a car in the first place. As well some of us who do enjoy our clunkers wouldnt trade them in for anything.

What makes me ANGRY is why does my 1985 Eta get 28-30ish miles to the gallon, yet some newer cars cant even best that?

Senate Democratic leaders on Thursday blamed Capitol Hill media for setting an August deadline for health reform and Republicans for blocking the bill's progress.

22,000 x $4,500 = ~100 million

100 million / 1 billion = 1/10

My 87 gti isn't eligible for this program because it gets 28 mpg. I don't see the CARS program being for "green" purposes. I see it as a way to ween ourselves from foreign oil while stimulating the economy. It's not emissions restricted-it's fuel economy restricted.

The only problem with your comparison is, is that when a business sells out they generally have a profit after that which can be further utilized to meet that demand. Last time I check, I don't think governments are getting a profit out of this... meaning that continued funding for this program equates to continued deficit spending which further leads to FAILURE of the government because they failed to have an accurate projection of their spending like any other program they legislate.

Plus it is continuing to help launch my Ford stock.

B = air
x = reduction in fuel/air amount
D = NEW emissions controls
C = total emissions.

I'm usually very against government intervention (fiscally conservative), but this program really makes since to me.

too bad you're taking capable cars off the road in favor of new cars that require more emission to manufacture and produce than the combined emissions that are emitted through the life of an old clunker

but yes, my ford stocks are going up as well too so i have to thank the gov's stupidity for this. I'm capitalizing on America's stupidity as soon as this bill was passed. shame...
