We can carry in bars here as well, just not while we're intoxicated.

        okay, most places

but really? you can bring a gun to school in Oregon? I went to high school years before all the big school shootings happened, and while it was possible to bring one for a class project, it required permission and it had to be disassembled and inoperative. They're paranoid as hell now (to what effect, who knows).

while i used to do it before i got my CCW, i honestly felt better carrying when other people could not see that i was.

there are people out there who will see open carry as a personal challange to them and cause you problems. that does not mean that you should outlaw open carry, but i found it socially easier to carry conceiled.

i have been in situations where i have had to produce my weapon, and have been glad that i had it. i think things would have gone down differently if i was open carry, i honestly can't say if it would have been better or worse, but with a visable side arm, things would have been different.
I dont like the open carry ethier but I am still not old enough to get my CCW. I would rather have it out in the open then not have it at all. Although I do hate the way you are treated when you open carry but I guess I have to live with that for the next 8 months till I can get my CCW.

Its a federal law you are not allowed to bring firearms into a federal buildings. A public school is one of those..

I would bet $100 that the guy that brought the AR to the town hall meeting had the gun unloaded and is nothing more than a hunk of plastic and metal. Even better if it was airsoft.

Edit/ looking into it Oregon is exception to the rule.

being a conservative and a NRA member, this was a bit redicalous. No need to carry an AR15 to any event like this. A simple NRA flag on your coat and a holster for your .45 would have been enough. Holy shit, for once I agree with h0lmes.

*GASP!* a conservative being open minded!! call Ripley's!!!! ;)

Also being a conservative NRA member, i do agree that maybe this move probably hurt the gun rights movement more than it helped, BUT, i am happy that no one was arrested because of it. If the guy with the AR was arrested, then i would have been pissed. It is good to see that the right to carry hasn't been completely revoked (yet).

                      can you say 'attention whore'?

srsly though, it's like waving around a match in front of a can of gasoline, probably not the best idea. Yes, we all have the right to carry a firearm. But do we have the right to flaunt it in front of the president? hmmm.....

Yes we do. If you really want to call that "in front of the President".

Can anyone explain to me then the 'concealed' pat of 'concealed carry'? Because this guy obviously wasn't trying to cover it up. Is it legal to walk down the street brandishing an automatic weapon? How does that fall in to the 'concealed' part?

Apparently you missed the "Open Carry" part of this.

You don't need a license to practice Open Carry in states that permit it.

Its not an automatic weapon ethier. You cant purchase one without a special purpose permit and even then its still hard and AZ is an open carry state too. Its just a rifle.

carrying and brandishing are 2 different things.

if you have a class 3 FFL. you may walk down the street with an automatic wepon, providing that you are not pointing it at anyone or threatening them.

be prepaired to be stopped by the police at some point though. they are going to want to know why you are walking down the street with it and want to see your FFL.
