lol that is true. But in all seriousness i don't see the need to carry a gun for self defence there are alot better self defence weapons then guns.

Let me put it another way i would not trust any of my nabourghs with guns therefore i would buy one to protect my self. But if my nabourgh dose not have a gun i don't need to buy one eithor. I understand that the fact of the matter is everyone else has a gun so i mush have one to so i can protect my self. That dose make sense, but also is somewhat not very mature approch to the situation.

Knives are much better when it comes to stopping power and damage, but they require the defender to get too close to the attacker. This makes guns a much better choice for most people, though I carry both. Do you know according to the FBI and the CDC firearms are successfully used in self defense over two million times per year here in the US? That right there speaks volumes.

You carry both a knife and a gun? Where do you live/work?

Out of curiosity what is the mortality rate due to guns in the United States.

Why not carry a stun gun instead it has range. There are some that fire up to 88 feet thats 26 meters!!!

Because pulling out a stun gun at a party makes you look like a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles. ;)

Guns have been called 'the great equalizer' for a reason. My girlfriend is 105lbs. and she has her CHL. Without a gun, what is she going to do against an average sized male around 180-190? How about one my size 6'1 and around 230? She'd be defenseless, and the cops are only minutes away.

Yep. I live in Happy Valley, near Clackamas east of Portland, just up the hill from 82nd. That's irrelevant though, I carried the same when I lived in West Linn.

Concealed Carry is the way 99% of the people that are "always" carrying a gun in public do so, and it's a rigorous system, with 2-3 month waiting period, classes, and very strict regulations on where you can and can't carry. Those with their CHL are not the kind of people that get themselves into hairy situations. They aren't Rambo wannabes. They are the most law-abiding section of the population due to the licensing process. Think of them as the people who always have a back-up plan, and are perfectly happy to never ever use it.

There's quite a bit of info about the mortality rate on www.cdc.gov. For the last few years it's been around 25,000, with a little over half of those being due to suicide.

Stun guns do not have the stopping power required in a life or death situation. I'd like to add, you never, ever draw your gun unless your life or the life of someone else is in immediate danger.

Unless you live in Idaho. It's a "shall issue" state.

$50.00 class, and buy a gun, they send in the cert for you, so when you pick up in 7 days, you are covered with a CCW, in a Open Carry state, that also is accepted in 34 other states.

                          Yay me.

Yep. I saw a quote that pertains to this the other day that read "Being prepared is sometimes inconvenient, but not being prepared is always inconvenient."

I respect your decision to live a restricted life.

Many here in the States do not. Some of the public carrying or possesing is good for all. This has been proven in Statistics compiled by the FBI. States with CC or Open carry have consistantly lower crime rates then do the most restricted Cities and States. These stats have been compiled since before the "Clinton" era.

While there are some who cling to the notion that an unarmed society would be best, I have yet to see them practice what they preach. By putting up a "Gunfree Zone" sign in front of their house, this would show their true faith.

Basically I know deep down what I say won't change anyone's mind. Some cling their faith instilled by indoctrination. And there are those who look at the facts to make their decisions.
