Common sense tells me to be "pissed off" for wasting taxpayer money to destroy perfectly good cars.

Lots of things to be pissed off about. 900+ billion fighting a multi-year two front war with no clear exit strategy and half the resources needed never really made me feel warm & fuzzy.

Watching some youtube videos of mid 90's caravans and explorers getting their motors popped and 3 billion given directly to the people in an attempt to promote a real economic boost to the market? Nah, doesn't really bug me in the long run. There's a lot of cars out there, they're making more. There's more e30s destroyed in a single winter on this board than were killed in the "clunkers" deal.

Weep all you want over a textbook "Free market" economy that hasn't existed in 150 years, get angry over vague esoteric concepts that you gleaned from an Ayn Rand novel you read last week. We're a service based economy. Take out the incentives to buy, and people will stop buying. It all falls apart after that.

Charlie you are correct in your last statement about the economy we have, and the fact that the "free market" economy doesn't exist and hasn't for a long time. What I am saying is America has lost touch with a sense of pride and individual responsibility, and when everything falls apart the public turns to the government for just another handout.
Democrats, Republicans, it is all the same. There is an ideological problem that must be solved first to fix our rooted problems.

Yes you are absolutely right Its a Progressiveism (sp) that has been around since the turn of the century and we can thank it for SS the FED Much of the IRS,much of the great depression, CRA and all kids of other crap programs. Now couple it with the more recent movement towards trasnationalism and being more like other countries and looking ot them for direction for our own laws and programs is a very slick fuck slope were getting onto.

One need to look no further than spain inditing Bush admi officials with war crimes due to their advising the admi on detainees and torture. Then our state department going along with it to a point instead of flat out saying fuck off you have no jurisdiction in the USA
