PSloan - I'd refund that deposit and run.

Do some research on people who have been burned on these deals. Who knows where he got the $$? Stolen CC numbers? That wont get reversed until well after you ahve shipped the car.

      Don't be a dumbass.

Is that even possible after the money is in my bank account?

People usually have up to 60 days from the date of the statement with a disputed charge to file for a chargeback.

Given that people may get their bill a month later, and wait to dispute it, it could be well after the car is gone and money was transferred to your bank. You know PayPal will come looking for it from you.

It is also possible that if the card is from another country, longer timelines could apply.

I'm just going to bail on the deal. I don't need the stress.

Is Georgia no longer in the United States?

I'm sympathetic to the buyer in the sense that it's really very difficult to get a nice vintage car in that part of the world. You'll see plenty of E21s and '02s but they're all beat to shit. That means you need to buy a car abroad and import it yourself...but no one is willing to do business with you because they're afraid of getting scammed.

When I was living in Turkey, I tried for months to buy a Lancer Evolution II or III from England. There were tons for sale and no one was buying. I tried seller after seller but none of them would work with me even though I'm a US-citizen, a medical doctor working at a large university, and had cash in hand. The fact that I was making the call from Turkey was a deal-breaker.

The only thing that isn't legit about this is his address on ebay is different than his physical location. Names, phone numbers, credit cards - they all match. He has called me a few times and discussed the details of the 1600 which few scammers do. If he can get cash in my hand before another deal is concluded it's all his.

I suggest you only take the money for the car, as in your driveway. Have the owner manage and pay for any shipping. You don't want to be responsible for refunding the payment because the carrier dropped the car at the "wrong" address... Which could be the actual scam.

I'll say it again. Refund the deposit and walk from the deal. Now, if as Lee suggests, the buyer can get someone to show up, in person, with cash, that is a little different.

I just spend an hour and a half on the phone / chatting with Ebay. Since he's out of the country he's not eligible for any sort of protection. So long as the money makes it to my bank account I'm clear. The guy paid in full - I should have the cash in 4 days.

After all, remember that while 1600s and 2002s are easy to find in the US, and cheap too, they have disapeared from the European continent a few decades ago. So, maybe the buyer is a genuine car collector and that he's making a good deal.

BTW With all due respect, your choice of avatar doesn't play in your favor.
