What kind of scam is this?

So, basically, what was your agreement with the car's buyer? Who's taking care of moving it from your garage? Who will do the paperwork so that you are not responsible for any damage done to the car, or by the car? I guess that the best thing is that the buyer appoints a notary who will legally severe any responsibility from your behalf with that car as soon as it leaves your parkway.

Right after my wife and I got married we were stopped in traffic when we saw a young girl who was looking for a clear path to dart across the road. (4 lanes).

The lane next to ours was not stopped and cars continued to pass. I yelled over to her to go to the next crosswalk, it was not safe.

You ever see a 15 year old get tossed like a rag doll by a Cadillac Eldorado? She didn't see it coming, so she didn't tense up, and I think that other than some serious bruises, she escaped serious injury. I felt no guilt, as I had warned her.


Look, I hope it all goes well, but I think that you are totally wrong to think that once the money hits your account you are in the clear.

if money hits paypal and paypal clears it, you can take all that money out of paypal account into your own bank account. Then Paypal can't do much, as they've cleared transaction. That's how ebay scammers get away with money. Even if paypal overturns the transaction, they can't reach into your account.

The fine folks at ebay motors told me that so long as I get the money in my bank account before the car is picked up there's nothing he can do. It says in my ad that shipping is the buyers responsibility (specific to ebay motors) so once it leaves my property it's not my problem because he hired the shipper. If he doesn't pick it up within 30 days of payment I can legally keep the car and the money. The money will be in my account by monday. The car isn't going anywhere until then.

Your situation sounds legit enough. When I think about it, the address on my ebay account is from like 4 houses ago so it can't be that uncommon. For me it was just to much stress and the scam signs were like flashing billboards in my face. GL with the rest of the transaction.

I knew people scammed by the moneygram thing through Western Union back in '03, got the money into their account, then a week later their bank said sorry, this is no good, money gets booted, dude is fucked.

This all assumes that it is in fact your buyer's money. To me, that is a very big red flag. A lot of the overseas buyer game is based on phony/stolen IDs and as such, you are not looking at the chargeback issue. If the funds are not legit, paypal will be coming back to you for recourse.

Sure, as it relates to eBay, you are off the hook once his designee picks up the car. But on the paypal side, you are not "in the clear" just because the money gets to your account.

Again, I hope everything is on the up and up, but it still sounds fishy.

When you think about the whole scam "business", scammers are after money, not cars. A car is easily traceable. The old scams worked in such way that the seller would send money back.

Maybe that Turf1600 can require all the transporter's info, as well as oversea shipper's before the car leaves. So, that will be one extra safety. The more traces the buyer leavs, the easier to get back to him.

Lol, I got one of those and cashed it at Wal-Mart. Kept the money, that guy was really REALLY pissed at me in Florida. Don't know exactly what happened to him, but I sent him parts and offered him change. After all that cussing I decided he wasn't worth my time.


There's still a guy from SC (here on r3v), who's $20 check bounced on me. So I no longer accept checks from SC, PP only.
