Going to a community college for 2 years then applying to transfer is a very good option that will save you a good amount of money and if you really care about your education you can gain a lot and graduate with a degree (which is infinitely important especially in this economy).M CoupeComment

Haha Oh yeah! I remember that! I don't mean to talk down. I am sure the more persistent and motivated you are there and post-graduation will make all the difference. I am sure you are an exception to the lazy norms.

No not yet I really need to. Let me know next time you go. I have been wanting to see your car for awhile now. How do you like it over your S13?

I'll let you know! Some cool people at those meets. I love the E30. I have had 2 S13 fastbacks and I just fell in love with the boxy, classy, and all around awesome look of the E30. The s13 was nice and quicker, but this has so much potential. I need to get suspension, bushings, and wheels figured out but it's fun as hell for now. I almost prefer to track it with stock suspension/footwork while I learn the car's dimensions. Turbocharging is in its future!Comment

To me, UTI was a waste of time. The average person pays around 25k. I went there, I got an attendance award and my GPA was around 3.3-3.9 on every class. And when you apply for a job they still give you a min. wage job that anyone could have even without the knowledge you got.
My cousin works at the Audi dealership in CT and he gets laid off almost every month. So he works a part time just to maintain.
Im going back to college now. UTI was garbage.Comment

i was a certified Porsche mechanic then got tired of that and went into bodywork for the last 7+ years and am ICAR Plat cert , Cellette cert, Caraligner cert, ASW cert in mig/tig/oxy acetaline, i do sheet metal fab in steel, alum
, and ss, i can and have built ground up sandrail chassis, custom roll cages, suspension parts. i can make replacement panels for restoration on an english wheel and plenishing hammer.
i NEVER went to school for it. i had the knack, met people who had the ability and skills to do things and learned from them, read books on and it taught myself, i took what ever classes to get my different certs along with taking the tests....even learned by trial and error.
with all that experence, knowledge, and certs (not to mention the tools!) i am getting out of it and going back to school for pharm. i will work on my own stuff or friends stuff or maybe a few custom parts for sale.
the money that was once there is long gone! you will realistically make $35 to $40K now and that is after putting in your time making shit as a lube tech or other low paying postion when you come out of school paying just above min wage. now figure in your paying back you school loans AND you still have to buy tools to the tune of $15k and upwards (more like 2 to 3 times that for everything) . not worth it imho.
also working on cars for a living will kill your passion for it. ask any long time mechanic how strong his desire is to work on project or sidework after work is. he will tell you the same thing.
go the JC route to gain knowledge, then get the business degree you want.Last edited by der affe; 09-17-2009, 10:07 PM.seien Sie größer, als Sie erscheinen

i went to ATI which is UTI's top competitor. i owe 2585 for 2 weeks of 'school'. i dropped it once i taught my teacher about the electronics on a R1, the philosophy of intake/exhaust valves, and other bs for bikes.
No teachers i ever seen were actually "certified" as i was offered a position to teach the night class for another teacher and when i asked about certification i was told i wont need to worry about it.
needless to say, i am going to court over the issue. i refuse to pay what the school should have got from student loans.
Dont waste your time, patience, money, or drive to success with that useless bullshit.sigpicComment

i have had 2 roommates that went to UTI and several freinds that did too. one dropped out and moved back to Utah and is working at the local GM dealer as the head tech!
the other stayed with it intent on getting in the Porsche program and couldn't because of politics. he told me the only really good thing he got out of there was his certs and the diesel/heavy machinery school.
UTI really does not carry any clout in the industry anymore either becuase they have become somewhat of a deploma mill.
we would always roll our eyes when a new UTI grad would get a job at the shop. 80% of them would not know what the hell they were doing and would last 6 months before they were fired or busted to lube tech. not to say they are all bad, just because they went there, but what the recruiters tell you is BS!seien Sie größer, als Sie erscheinen
