On the contrary, my brother bought Regal(?) tires for his E46, brand new with maybe a year shelf life, and one blew the sidewall when we were on the highway, luckily only doing about 65mph. Nothing happened. I was touching a chick's boobies in the back seat when it blew.

Considering most American consumers are complete idiots when it comes to anything they have to research themselves and that they don't even check their own tire pressures, they're taking a one sided view.

I have 10 year old tires and I'm not dead yet therefore this is BS.

That guy's mustache creeped me out so I turned off the video. Something about tires and fiery death I think.

wait a second so this is saying those free tires i find that have 1/8 inch left tread on them and are probably 10 years old isn't safe? Nah that can't be

I for one do appreciate discussion on tire age.

I have a set of potentially 9+ year old tires with 90% tread on them. They've spent the last 6 years indoors. Because of the age - I'm just not comfortable running them. I can see waves in the sidewalls that particularly spook me.

Like I could run them – and maybe I’d be fine – but it’s a gamble I’m not willing to take.

When I was younger – I had a tire blow at 70mph – and it was scary. The tread flapped around and really boogered up the fender.

A few years ago – I purchased a ’72 CB350 Honda. I put new tubes on it – but didn’t think much of replacing the tires. 60mph and the front blew. It was a holy fucking miracle that I had the self control to keep my arms relaxed as the bars wobbled wildly around. There was one of those car-carrying rigs not 5 feet away to my left. Traffic behind me. Longest minute of my life was the time it took to gently bring it down to a stop. Must have smoked 4 cigarettes in a row after that..

Any way – I’ve established an 8 year rule. Anything older than 8 years old – and you’re gambling.

Wow you guys need to talk to sportbike guys. As long as a tire is stores properly it has a damn good shelf life! I know of guys who have 5 yr old tires( from date of man.) that are bagged and in storage.
Don't forget tires have to cure!
