To be honest I don't recall the insurance company. Farmer's maybe? I was on the plan with my parents, but it was like, $150 a month, give or take (fuck the haters, I'm not lying). I bought my STi new at the end of 07, book was like $35,600 or something, and my friend was working at the Subaru dealer, so I got it for like $31,000 or $32,00, somethin like that, and they gave me like $11,500 trade in for my WRX (which I paid $13,000 at the time). It all ended up a very good deal in my favor. The $491 a month payments kinda got old, but I was working full time as a welder, so the $$ wasn't an issue. I'm 21 as of December 09, and it was an 07 model, so not that long ago? I don't really remember (or care to do the simple math) how old I was, but you get the general idea....

I spent a lot of time on IWSTI, and almost daily there was new threads popping up complaining about insurance... I think it's all got to do with your record, what kinda discounts you can get, your area, etc. etc. etc. (or however it's all figured). I just know that the new STi w/ full coverage was VERY affordable for me.

But.... If I can offer this up.... I've owned a Jeep wrangler, WRX, STi, and now the BMW. I have driven SEVERAL cars like new BMWs, corvettes, an Evo, and SRT-4, etc.... The STi was my absolute FAVORITE, hands down (and again, fuck the haters, amazing car, EAD).
Being 17 is a major crutch im sure with insurance and i have one ticket on my record:(
also i heard about the STI warm-up/cool down periods did you really worry about those to much because that is another major turn away, yeah and the only thing i cant get around is the instrument cluster in the STI's it just looks so ugly but the car drives and feels amazing:)

17, don't get an STi. Get one when you're done in school, you won't be disappointed. When I'm done, I'm planning on making that purchase ASAP.

What warm up and cool down period did you hear about?....

Cluster was my favorite compared so Evo, SRT4, etc., etc.... Like I said, loved that car.

PM me for detailing services in the Longmont / Boulder Area in Colorado!

I caught the dont wreck it part:rofl:

the warmup/cool down period i heard about was in cold temperatures you have to let it warm up for like 10 minutes or so before driving or you'll crack the block, and something about letting it idle for a while after running hard?

also my dad isn't to hot on me getting a STI because he has heard stories of what my brother and he friend used to do in his buddys STI and what my brother did in his WRX

lol, yeah... I posted that, and was like.... Kinda asshole thing to say, so deleted the post.

I have heard about the cool down, not the warm up.... Here's my personal experience... I spent several hours researching parts, ailments, etc. regarding the car. I knew my shit...

Brand new car, would warm up and blow hot air in under 5 minutes, regardless of the season. Car was my DD, and during the winter (Here in Colorado we go weeks at a time in the teens with plenty of snow on the ground and / or falling) the car never once hesitated to start up, and it warmed up quickly. I loved that about that car...

As for cool down, I can almost guarantee you heard this from someone who didn't OWN an STi, am I right? They were most likely tooting the horn of something called a turbo timer, am I right? Bullocks, the lot of the information you received. Turbo timers are not necessary on the STi, maybe if you had a completely built car with a huge turbo, MAYBE buy one then. Waste of time, space, and gas I think. Never saw anyone run their STi and hurt it by just shutting it off and then saying, "I wish I had a turbo timer." Gay, useless electronics. I ran that car ragged, and would kill it and walk inside without thinking twice. When I would go do autocrosses or track days, I'd let the car idle for about 30 seconds after I reached the paddock and kill it, no problems at all. The cool down issue is related to turbo damage, but the STi turbos are plumbed with coolant lines... All in all, no issues personally, nor did I read about any issues like this, and I spent a LOT of time on the forums and researching...

I took it to no offense i would say the same things when my friends get ahold of performance cars too,
I heard the cool down thing from my brother, he didnt go into detail very much with the cool down because he only heard the exact thing i told you, and never really bothered to research it because he heard it after he sold his wrx, and the warm up part was from his friend who owned the STI but i honestly know what my insurance bill is going to be if i get a STI and i dont need to pay that differance because my dad is having me pay the difference from my e46 to the new cars insurance also, but do you have any other AWD performance car sugestions?

Only AWD experience I have is a bugeye WRX, and an 07 STi.

No issues for me, but good luck... Don't speed and don't wreck it.

If not an STI then maybe a forester turbo or a legacy 2.5gt? Same amount of fun but less on insurance?

Mmmmmmm, no. Both are so so, but not as fun or as raw as the Impreza platform....

I just thought of it..... Get a 99-01 body style (GC-8 I think???) 2.5RS. They look the tits, they are pretty damn fun, and are PRIME candidates for swaps (they're the e30s50 swap car of the Subaru world. Stuff a WRX drivetrain or STi drivetrain into the thing, and win :) )

GC is the best Impreza chassis ever created. I would kill for a 22b STI.

                            Yeah,

I found a extremely clean Tornado Red R32 about a week ago that i already drove and the only S4 i like is a black/grey avant in Pennsylvania with 30k more miles for only 500 less

so I most likely will go with the R32 now because it honestly looks like a brand new car. unless someone suggests something else for me to try out

I would do unspeakable things for a LEGIT 22b STi.... Unspeakable... For a LEGIT, RDH model.

They look fun, my friend is about to pick one up I think. Bring it to CO and I'll really make it look new ;)
