    76' 280z for a girl

A friend of mine found a rather good conditioned 76'. Major issues?

        Does she have deep pockets?

Or, by some impossibility, can she work on it herself?

It's a shame to see them fall apart in neglect.

I've driven with her, and she's a good driver. The repair, she has the money to repair and no she can't fix it herself.

            edit: thank you guys

I can't comment on the pros and cons of the trade without pictures of both. Go with whichever has lower maintenance.

                SR20DET swap.

And who needs a heater core?

Rust is your biggest issue. Rear hatch area, under battery tray, floor pans, spare tire well, and frame rails are the common spots on these cars.

If the FI hasn't been maintained, it will need a refresh. You can temporarily bypass the heater core if you are worried...just loop the hose.

Also, if your car ever starts to smell like exhaust inside and you can't figure it out for the life of you nor solve it no matter what you do, taillight gaskets. Ask me how I know...

Also, modifying is cheap. Certain year 300zx's have a clutch type 3.7LSD you can use, 280zx's come with 2 different 5 speed options, depending on your emissions standards, you can always convert to carbs(recommend 70-72 carbs, avoid 73-74...emissions stuff), plenty of after market suspension, 280zx turbo motor is bolt in barring wiring, and an rb25 is damn near a bolt in as well.

*edit...you're in cali, you won't be converting to carbs...

The OP's sig is a good explanation for this.

Why is the DET so popular? It's a dog.

                            It's not a dog. It's a great motor. That's why it's popular.
