I'm sorry to hear about the problems some of you are having getting work. It sucks.

From what I am seeing there are a host of problems out there that are hurting the recovery.

    1) Government tax changes, regulations, and uncertainty.
Business can take on a lot of burden (not that they should), but they don't deal with uncertainty well. They won't take on additional risk (hiring new employees) until they are reasonably certain what it will cost. This new health insurance thing is currently unknown what it will cost so they aren't going to hire until they know.
    2) There's a huge backlog out there that's clogging the system
You can't get parts that you need to build your new widgets because the current demand is more than forecast and everybody laid off too many people so they don't have the resources to reduce the backlog. But, they won't hire because of point 1 above. So, those that have a market for products, can't fulfill orders and make money, so they can't hire more people either. It slows everything down.

It's pretty simple where the problem is. Businesses are overly quick to layoff, especially publicly traded companies. They are slow to hire back normally. But, mix in the heavy hand of government into the mix like we have now, they will be even slower to hire back. It stalls things and makes recovery that much more slow. It's pretty sad, really.

I hope it gets better soon for you guys. There is hope out there now. Business is picking up for us and that usually means that construction is ramping up and property is starting to change hands. That should mean good things are coming, albeit slowly.

no, you wouldn't be able to live with luxuries right now. You can live in a small apartment and afford gas just by working at walmart. I've done so in college. I averaged about 45hrs a week in the evenings at 9.25hr. That was 1600 a month after taxes. I payed rent and a car note and still had 700 to fuck off.

you can do it, you just don't want to bad enough.

if you didn't know the government was going to pay for your shit, wouldn't you be out there everyday, all day trying to find work?

To you people who actually had to file for extensions, are you telling me that in during all that time you were looking for work as hard as you should have? No I doubt it. Times are tougher but not impossible. You can't just search craigslist for a jo in your local city. If you really wanted a job you'd have one. Go out and find one and look in other states if you have to. Jeez

Bachelors of Science in Agriculture Technology Management and Education. Was going to be an Agriculture Teacher, but I killed that idea after doing 9/10ths of the program and felt some relief when Arizona basically announced they are going to lay of thousands of teachers if 1 cent tax isnt passed.

Only thing going for me is I have a decent resume and work experience for a college student and I'm willing to move anywhere since Arizona is dead f'n end for jobs.

I had to file for an extension to keep food on the table awhile back. Should be able to do so for yourself.

Because of past injuries I've considered getting on disability for being legally blind in one eye. Just hate that they'd take away my license.

My Dad's a blue collar. I'm a blue collar. He's got 30 + years in Construction and myself around 7. I haven't seen the field suffer this much, even when it was skinny in the past. The company my Dad works for (I've been "laid-off") has been in the commerical business for around 35 years and they are "resorting" to doing residential odd jobs. I started a business and have barely made mortgage and food. Same goes for the parents and many, many other family members. If it wheren't for family we'd have gone under awhile back. We're taking jobs at cost, nearly no profit, just to stay competitive. Our clients are squeezing pennies to get what NEEDS to be done, done. If we didn't stick to a tight budget, take odd jobs whenever and whatever we can, sell off stuff... I don't know. It's scary stuff. Hell, we switched to clothe diapers for our kiddo.

But, you know, I'm just fear mongering.

And yet Government jobs are in abundance right now.

    *EDIT*

I just opened our new tax rates for our company that's already only making next to nothing... re-seller fee's, UE taxes increased (again) and overall tax increases. Funny, I swear I was told we'd see small businesses flourish under this administration.
