Does anyone else feel hopeless about the oil well in the gulf?
I don't feel helpless at all. This is a natural substance that the earth can deal with. A Hurricane would be great, stirring up the mess and distributing it better throughout the ocean. Call me an idiot or an ass, but this happens with oil. It could have happened to one drilling offshore.
It's like the earth is laughing at us. "Have fun cleaning up my shit you greedy fucks. That's what you get for drilling into me you precocious monkeys."
But at the same time it's like, "Shit, i'm bleeding. Bad. Halp."

This aint the end of the world guys, oil seeps out of the ocean floor 24/7/365 all over the place. Yes it will make a mess and kill lots of stuff but if they shut it down in the same time frame as the one in 79, a couple of years from now nobody will be able to tell it ever happened.
Just keep in mind that the 1979 Mexican side spill in the gulf dumped 140m gallons. We have been through worse in the Gulf.
Conspiracy Theory time, Katrina didn't work, so they blew the top off this well. They gonna get the poor folk outta the south one way or another. ;)
(I'm only half serious)
my friend thinks that "they" have some kind of weather control that can cause crazy weather disasters like Katrina.
But why would they want the south? Isn't the south.....well not that nice?

HAARP. Lot's of other DARPA projects. But then again, "They" told us about what they have, so I bet "they" secretly have something far worse.
UMMMMMM NO just because the Rooskies used it with success dose not mean we should do it too, Chernobyl was a success too for a while. The Rooskies are not who we want to be basing our technique on you think US coal mines have lax safety standards you have never read about anything russian at all have you . If we were to try to nuke it it could very easily disrupt the formation and cause it to leak MUCH worse than it is now and make it unstoppable. This action could also destroy the formation and then we lose that resource which is clearly a ton of there. of it.
Free flowing with out assistance through a semi restricted riser with a flow rate of 5k+ barrels a day @ 80 bucks a barrel then you are looking at 400k bucks a day in production value. THATS A HUGE DEPOSIT and not some thing you just blow up all willy nilly or risk the uncontrollable release into the environment you think its bad now UGHHHHH
I spend a lot of my free time enjoying the Gulf beaches. The fact that there is/was absolutely no plan in place for this scenario infuriates me. There are some BP execs that need to be assassinated.
