All you need to keep is your W2 after the year and if everything like wages and hours are right.
I kept almost every single one I ever had since I was 16 and working at Seaworld. I have one where I worked like 60 hours this one week and got like 475 bucks.sigpic -
I have about 90% of all my pay stubs ever. Its just an insurance policy for me, If I ever get audited. I have all of them from my very first jobs in the early 90's. It's fun to look back at a check from high school where a week of pay was like $100. lolComment

I keep them in a folder, just in case something ever comes up you can always have a hard copy for evidence/proof.

Many places require a paystub for proof of employment for renting, etc. I hold on to all of mine.Comment

I think generally you are supposed to keep tax related paperwork for 7 years, but I don't think most people do that.Comment

I keep them but only out of habit, I'm probably going to stop. There's really no reason to do it if you've got a typical payroll employer and have been working for over a year. Your tax info will be all the income proof anyone would need. I developed the habit of keeping income proof from when I worked as a consultant because creditors are much more skeptical then, and want to see not only your total annual income but also the cash flow (like what if you get all your $ in the 2nd half of the year and can't make payments for the rest of the time...).

I usually keep the important records (tax documents, bank statements & paystubs) for 5 years then destroy them. Things like statements for phone, car insurance, credit cards I hold on to for 2 years tops then its gone.
