Yeah my username is pretty sick.

Basically I was born with an extremely rare bone disease, one in like 1 (maybe 10) million people get it. I had the worst case ever reported :)

So anyways I had the disease (which makes the inside of the joint grow faster then the outside) in 11 areas, where normal cases are about two. I had my first surgery at 18 monthes, and one every year after until I was 11. On 5-16-2006 I had my leg amuptated because since I was 4 my knee and ankle were fused (didn't bend AT ALL). The growth plate of my leg had also closed... so it wasn't going to grow much more.

And here I am today.. soon to be a sophomore in high school. Ive wrestled on the school wrestling team, this year I did swim, and I ride my bike a hell of alot (for a kid).

I would get some paddle clutch action ASAP dude, that would be so much fun.

Stick to it, don't break the back end loose til you're comfortable with it, slow down whenever you think about it, and just go with your gut. These guys said the rest

Nobody knows this, but before I made race car parts for a living, I made devices /contraptions that made tasks easier for people who needed them.

I came up with lots of inventions for people who needed help performing simple tasks in everyday life. It was very rewarding, but I had to work in the basement of a university hospital for 11 hours a day and I went nuts.

So, you can easily set up things to drive your car controllably and safely. Use your head, you have the right attitude already.

Here is why I am posting this. I see you are in Bremerton. One of the better companies for equipping "handicapped" cars is in the PNW, and maybe you can buy used parts, get ideas, or whatever to help yourself.

Send me a PM, and I will put you in touch as best I can. I know the guys name, but I forget the name of his company.

i would do the learning and 1st year or so in an automatic if i were you.. fussing with how to operate the clutch and all that will be a PITA, better to get used to the road first so that it isn't a distraction.

My grandfather had a stroke during the last years of his life, due to the stroke he lost a lot of the reaction speed in his legs, but not in his hands. So, we had a hand lever mounted under the steering wheel that operated the brake pedal. I think it cost my parents a few hundred dollars, but it helped my grandpa keep his independence. It didn't interfere with the tilt function of the steering wheel or the ability to use the pedal as normal.

I'd say check the phonebook for any local dealers that sell those wheelchair vans, they might be able to point you towards a company that makes similar products.

More power to you for wanting to learn the 5-speed.
