it's connected directly to it, the master cylinder is bolted to the pedal box.
Im sure nobody cares

It's not impossible. What I imagine is something like this:
Motorcycle hand clutch mounted to the left side of the wheel so you can keep your hand at 9 or 10 o'clock while the right hand is on the shifter. This is a throttle cable type setup, much like bicycle brakes. You'll need some sort of rotational pull-ring linkage or maybe just a way to loop 4 turns of cable around the wheel base and keep it neat/contained.
This remote mounts to the master cyl which can be oversized to make pulling it by hand easier.
While typing this i had a second idea, same lever but mount it on the shifter so you can squeeze the clutch and shift at the same time with the same hand. This will leave the wheel un-cluttered.
Might want one of those T shapes shift knobs to put it horizontal while you're at it, I imagine that would be more ergonomic for having to work a lever.sigpic

The 22mm handlebar mount would almost be perfect for the thicker portion of the shifter, then you could just run a SS line to the slave cylinder. A reservoir could be mounted near the ashtray. You would have to consider the displacement of fluid needed to release the clutch but I don't see why it wouldn't work.Comment

I'm sure some junkyard motorcycle action can get this done for less than $50.sigpic

Sounds like you need a right hand drive car man! Then you could use your left foot for the clutch and figure out the throttle. Seems like the throttle would be easier to rig up than a clutch, but the link posted above has some cool stuff! Super effective, I have a friend in a wheelchair and we're always rigging up ways for him to do shit in his chair. Never thought fabricating for a wheelchair would feel so rewarding slash awesome.
But on the real, I understand the desire to want to drive 5 speed because of the doubt from your peers or the need to fit in, but paddle shifting seems right up your alley! Best of both worlds and you could still do a lot of the same stuff as a manual trans. :) But yeah, in high school I could barely afford drugs much less a car equipped with that sort of technology.Comment
