I found a new line of work to get away from working Derick on the oil rigs, and that was working only 150' max...with a harness,I can't even imagine 1700'+

I have a hard time thinking Osha is ok with free climbing that thing though.

I could feel my nuts crawling into my chest watching this...

Isn't that weird? As if the end result would be any different between the two heights.

Definitely seems like it'd be a lot easier than climbing back down. Parachutes just sketch me the fuck out. If they fail you die.

seconded. How could you not? just grab the tools and fly off. Screw climbing down after all of that.

always was. it was taken down though, because the climber is a friend of the guy who uploaded and the climber did several things that werent to regulation.

like just stood on the top without having another point of contact.

Since I became a skydiver I have so much more respect for base jumpers. Because of the limited altitude to work with they only jump with one parachute...that's just fucking ridiculous.

In the first 10 seconds of freefall you fall 1000' and accelerate to terminal. The next thousand feet happens in 5 seconds. Jumping from this antenna would give you about 13 seconds of freefall until impact.

With an average fatality rate of 1/60, I can see why these guys choose climbing down.

Sadly, it is. The problem is most people get into the sport without knowing exactly how dangerous it is. You can do everything right and still die...

                                Object: Building
                                Location: SWITZERLAND, ,
                                COD: Building Strike
                                Description:
On November 11th, Ueli was jumping an L shaped building, the 88m tall Sunrise Tower, during a promotional event. He jumped the side of the building facing the bottom of the L handheld. The glidepath he was on would put him very close to the edge of the building. He tucks his legs up and tries to clear it but it proves too be not enough and he clips the building edge with his legs. The impact flips him up and unloads the canopy. When his weight reloads on the canopy it appears to be asymetrical and Ueli turned into the ground. He was taken to the hospital and treated in the Intesive Care Unit for two days at which point he died.

Ueli was a very skilled jumper and respected by the community.
