My brother has owned a 2006 330i w/ 6-speed manual for a few years now and its been a trouble-free car for him. I've driven it several times, major gripes I can report:
run-flat tires (easily resolved)
no spare (just repair kit - although a compact spare kit was offered)
no oil dip stick
cupholder is shallow (bottled water will fall right out when you floor it)
first gen iDrive stinks
The N52B30 engine is pretty damn durable. Not a lot of tuning options available but its baseline 255HP is nothing to sneeze at either. Definitely try to get one equipped with a Sport Package....makes all the difference.
Since this particular model is going on 5 years old, depreciation has kicked in enough to make a clean, well maintained 330i a sub-$20K car.

this is my e92 328xi
i need something for everyday driving
6spd, sport pkg, cpo
right now this car is worth somewhere close to $25k
this is a fast car, or at least fast enough
its quicker than an e46, goes around corners without any drama, great seats, stock stereo sounds great, bluetooth is nice
great modern everyday car
the downside is that there is no drama going around corners or driving fast. you don't get the sensation of speed like an e30 or my 2002tii.
