TG is good because the hosts are writers, not engineers or race car drivers or whatever.
Oddly enough I like the idea of having that Jackass guy host a car show. I remember they had a Jackass episode where they all drove across Europe in the Gumball rally and it was pretty entertaining.

That sound puts most V8's to shame.

My personally i think the real British top gear is 100 times better, I mean they seem like they kinda have the same general focus and everything but its just not the same. its the crew that makes it so good Jermy, Richard, and James there's just nothing better

I missed the first episode of TG USA, but I saw the second. It was just flat out boring. I didn't even finish it. Rehashing a stunt that has been done on the real TG was pretty lame.

What I love about the original TG is that the music, editing, everything is AMAZING. It just flows and fits so well. I'm sure most of that is because BBC has a ridiculous budget, but it was clearly obvious how shitty some of the camera angles were when the one guy was in the new Evo. Granted it is the first season, but still, it was painfully obvious how scripted everything was.

Also, humming on the Evo's balls the entire segment isn't Top Gear to me. I love hearing about how much the interior sucks, or how it's not user friendly, or how the shifter feels like floppy donkey dick...a la Clarkson. As a car guy, I'm not watching the show to see how awesome every supercar is (that I will never even be able to drive in my lifeteime), I'm watching to see how much that car I'll never driver actually really sucks.

I will continue to DVR it and check it out, but I don't think it can compare to the original. And granted, I haven't seen the first season of the original TG, I just don't think it's going to make it 15 seasons like the original.

              /End rant.

Tried watching an episode of TG USA tonight and I couldn't finish it. Boring as shit, it's a straight rip off. They even went as far as copying the fucking TABLE they sit around. The hosts suck too, the entire show just screams speed channel with its abundance of crappy car shows. None of them have any real entertainment value, just some douchebag reading his lines off a screen. Wont be watching it again

Annoying bro? Based on his appearance maybe, but not with his segment. A real car guy who can form his own opinions without just being mystified by a high price car is what we all want. I was entertained.

I will admit the Gumball Rally Jackass episode was pretty cool though.

The current hosts obviously are what we feared, afraid to speak their minds / their contracts say no. Or they simply don't have the experience with or the simple love for cars that a smart car enthusiast does. That ability to be critical on something that just doesn't work, isn't good, or in their minds, ugly (maybe Foust, but he doesn't communicate well or would if he could? Let's see him bad mouth 1 car over 20 grand and maybe?). Not saying I hate the other guys but are they suited for the show? Time will tell. I like Adam Ferrara, but on Rescue me. I think Rutledge Wood could be good for some jokes, we'll see, not too impressed so far. Maybe I'm being too critical on their character? Maybe we all are.

I'll keep watching it hoping it changes my opinion. It isn't perfect and won't eclipse the original but it still is better than most car shows on any other channel. If they can make it less dumbed down and with the first Mercedes they test call it an overpriced pile of scrap when compared to "comparable car" I'd laugh and give them some respect since every commercial break has a Mercedes Commercial. Then their sponsors will drop, and other sponsors will come if their smart because of the unbiased ratings. It won't happen, but that's what we need.

He's smart, at least with his comparisons and metaphors, offensive, and bound to piss people off, exactly what TG USA is missing.

                  Good suggestion IMO.

Episode 3 best yet, knew itd be better. Still not amazing but definitwly picking up a lot of the vacancy I the first two episodes. And at least tanner called out mustangs for all looking the exact same.

I never thought id hear him say anything remotely negative about a car ever.

I thought ep 3 was damn good. The star in a car interview was so so and the lap was 15 seconds long. But I never liked that portion of the show anyway. Kid rock is on next week though.

episode 3 was actually pretty good. I was really worried that someone would crash into one of the other cars every time they stopped in top gear UK style but it looks like they didn't, or at least didn't air that footage. It looks like they might actually start to develop their own interactions between hosts and not just rip off everything UK.

Episode 4 looks like its going to be pretty good too. another cheap car event and kid rock.

Pretty sure they didn't have the stig run a car around the track and get a lap time in episode 3, or did I miss something

Yeah I was waiting to see Stig runthat shitty mustang round the track and it didn't happen, what gives? I wanted to see the slowstang demolish last years BMW, as is usually the case with all the cross brand comparrison tests, "Check out all the competitors who caught up to XYZ luxury brand/performance sedan figures from 2-5 years ago!!!" lame...

Either way... nobody cross shops a mustang and m3, and the mustang should be faster than the m3, it's supposed to be a more performance oriented vehicle... the m3 is a family sedan with an edge, that goes round a track better than other run of the mill bimmers, which already go round a track better than other run of the mill sedans.

keep on 'ing last years models ford, that's the way to lead the pack, right? :finger:
