yeah but do you know why you don't see college kids driving them around? Get a quote on a few maintenance parts and you will soon run away, very fast.

s2ks are fun, but don't really make a comfortable dd... they are more at home singing at your local autocross or track days.... ap1's have a little less torque vs ap2 , and ap2 have slightly better suspension / easier to drive at the limit. Fun as heck, and very rewarding to drive fast...great chassis, good brakes, handling and high revving engine that sings. They make a great 2nd / weekend car though.

This went from finding you a car to talking about cars in a page.

S52 should be in your price range.

High mileage S54 might be in top end of your price range.

M Coupe is a raw as it gets. The idiosyncrasies might get old on a DD basis. I can tell you everything you need to look for if you go that route...

For DD I still recommend the E46 M3. The lux items and practicality of the E46 M3 far outweigh it's lack of rawness.

Sounds like the E46 M3 is winning out. I guess that's to be expected, since this is a BMW forum. That's what I'd go with.
