Don't forget the early Mitsubishi Montero. Look for the V6 long-wheelbase version. Avoid the early short-wheelbase Mitsu Montero/Dodge Raider as they can be pretty tippy at highway speeds.

Rover Disco is another good option can be found for what you are willing to spend

parts are a little more money than an XJ but I would rather be caught pushing a rover than driving a jeep

Go with the s10. Had a 1992 s10 blazer, they're awesome little vehicles.

My dad's 1997 s10 made it over 450k on the original engine with a minimum amount of maintenance. The vortec v6 is very stout engine, though not the most powerful.

The 4.3 vortech does well its got plenty of power for a small truck. It was more than enough for my full size that had a 6in lift on 33x14.50s on 16x12 with the stock gearing.

I also had a 84 2.8 l s10 blazer that was the best 180bucks Ive spent on a car it wouldnt pass smog and just needed a collant flush lols. I beat the fuck out of that thing it was my daily when I was in high scool because I dont want to drive my duster every day.

I was going to suggest the older S10 blazers. But thought the squeaky back window would drive Danny nuts lol.

the 83-92(?) body style rusts too fast around here.. I never get to seem them anymore.

Can't stress how good of a little truck they are..Plus it's really surprising what they can go through.

Oh, and if anybody is interested i've got an extra 4.3 out of my 92 that has only 13k on it sitting in my garage waiting for a new owner.

Ya i had a couple that was carbureted, but never any problems.

                          Just remember, 82-85=Carb. 86-93=TBI.

Mid 90's Toyota tacoma v6, like a 1995 or so? My friend has one with 350k on the odo and all we have ever done on it is replace the head gaskets. And those miles were far from easy miles.
