Car does matter, as with one I can do the job, with another, I cannot. I'm not keen on using an e36 lowered on 18's for commuting to and from a site and idling all night, hence a cheap jeep to drive into the ground.

yes in that way a car does matter but you also said "they may take it the wrong way, thinking "punk in a bmw" vs "sensible guy in a jeep." That does not all im saying.

Sorry I just could not resist, the way you describe it you have to admit it comes off a little like a contract flagger or escort truck lol

An XJ is a great choice, try to stay away from Grand Cheokees, they tend to have electrical problems and tranny issues. The v8 5.9 zj is pretty wicked though.

If you get an xj, id try to go with a 98-99.

00-01 are know to have head cracking issues between cyl 3-4 when any type of over heating is present, which is kinda common for XJ's as they have a cramped bay. A lot of people run hood vents on them to help. XJ's came in 4 and 6 cyl models, no V8.

98-99 have the stronger rear and front axles, as well as more standard features, the older ones arent bad though.

They are really fun, easy to work on, and really reliable. Like all cars they have thhier specific issues.

Here is an older pic of my XJ, it looks a bit idfferent now

My dad had a 92 Dodge Dakota with the 318 V8. I drove it daily for a few months. Thing was quick and fun to drive. He used it to tow his 22ft. camp trailer no problem. Also towed our 19.5ft. fiberglass fishing boat no problem as well. A lot better then my sister's Tahoe, that's for sure. Decent gas mileage too. His was a club cab 2WD with pretty much every option available. Never had any problems with it other then stupid shit like a broken plastic radiator neck or the shift selector switch wearing out over the years.
