Here's what it looked like from Kauai. I should have bumped up the ISO and taken faster shots, but at o-dark-30 i wasnt thinking straight.

I'm gonna ditch my D80 and am looking for a new camera...looking for some input. I have always liked Nikon, but am not oppossed to switching to something else. Currently looking at the D5300; seems like the best sensor for the money and great video performance, which is important to me. Looking to keep it under 1000; what do you guys think I should look at?

I shoot a lot with a full frame Canon 6D when I am home, but honestly if I was not trying to get more into astro stuff and Aurora photography, coupled with the nearly unbelievable deal I got on it I would prolly have dumped a traditional sized SLR outfit over 2 years ago. Look through my flicker there are about 1/2 or more of them from my olympus outfit.
A new em10 + 17mm F1.8 will put you at about 1200 bucks but you can save a little bit form that shopping around for good used gear (hell you might find a good used EM-5 for a steal) put this with some good used kit glass in 14-42 and 40-150 F3.5-5.6. With some basic accessories you can prolly be all in for about 1600 or less with some good shopping, but you can get enough to get started for close too if not less than your target.

Dont let the 1/2 size senor fool ya, dont let everyone tell you small senors suck in low light, this was shot at ISO 1600 IIRC for about 4sec.

Shot well past dark hand held @ ISO 3200, the IS on this thing is great

Wanting to get some new camera gear but can only afford one of the two items what would you go for. Mind you I do allot of Motorsports shooting.
New Sigma 150-600mm to replace my Sigma 150-500mm
Or
Canon 7D MKii to replace my Canon 70D
I can decide between the two both are something I need/want but I am not sure what is going to provide better value for money. I am leaning a bit more toward the 7d mkii but the new sigma lens offers so much move over my 150-500mm
Quick comparison.
Sigma 150-600 offers
100mm more reach
better weather sealing
can be docked to customise to my preferences
Better image quality (This is base on word of mouth no images as of yet)
7D Mkii
10fps
Better low light sensor
65 point all cross type AFsigpic

for motor sport, you know your getting good results with the current set up, in most cases I would say get better glass but the sigma is not that bad to begin with its not L but its not bad lol..
If it were me in this situation, I think I would want the better A/F and burst rate for catching a racing automobile at speed. The better low light performance and less noisy higher iso of the 7d would be just icing on the cake at that point. You can always crop and resize to get that extra 100mm of reach easier with a better sensor...... You can upgrade your glass again in the future if need be.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
