Here's what it looked like from Kauai. I should have bumped up the ISO and taken faster shots, but at o-dark-30 i wasnt thinking straight.

Not one of my best water fall shots, lighting was shit, but its of a very seldom photoed spot (way, way off trial) and from a even less common angle.

What a stunning view. Makes me have the urge to go hike around for some nice scenery around me.

I'm gonna ditch my D80 and am looking for a new camera...looking for some input. I have always liked Nikon, but am not oppossed to switching to something else. Currently looking at the D5300; seems like the best sensor for the money and great video performance, which is important to me. Looking to keep it under 1000; what do you guys think I should look at?

I already want to upgrade my D3100... But I'm broke and in college...

for a every day carry around kinda rig, Olympus OMD and a 17mm F1.8 and there is now a 12-40 F2.8 zoom for the platform as well though its a grand alone. I love mine for general use, With 3 F1.8 primes (17mm 45mm 75mm) the 75mm is one of the best chunks of glass I have ever seen for ANY platform. Its got a great sensor and the glass for the format is awesome though limited..... There are 3 of them now the EM5 (the original OMD) the EM1 the professional and EM10 which is a bit more budget friendly, though has the same senor lacks 5 axis IS for 3 axis, and a slower burst rate shooting.....

I shoot a lot with a full frame Canon 6D when I am home, but honestly if I was not trying to get more into astro stuff and Aurora photography, coupled with the nearly unbelievable deal I got on it I would prolly have dumped a traditional sized SLR outfit over 2 years ago. Look through my flicker there are about 1/2 or more of them from my olympus outfit.

A new em10 + 17mm F1.8 will put you at about 1200 bucks but you can save a little bit form that shopping around for good used gear (hell you might find a good used EM-5 for a steal) put this with some good used kit glass in 14-42 and 40-150 F3.5-5.6. With some basic accessories you can prolly be all in for about 1600 or less with some good shopping, but you can get enough to get started for close too if not less than your target.

One of my fav semi recent shots from my OMD

Dont let the 1/2 size senor fool ya, dont let everyone tell you small senors suck in low light, this was shot at ISO 1600 IIRC for about 4sec.

Shot well past dark hand held @ ISO 3200, the IS on this thing is great

Wanting to get some new camera gear but can only afford one of the two items what would you go for. Mind you I do allot of Motorsports shooting.

New Sigma 150-600mm to replace my Sigma 150-500mm

                      Or

Canon 7D MKii to replace my Canon 70D

I can decide between the two both are something I need/want but I am not sure what is going to provide better value for money. I am leaning a bit more toward the 7d mkii but the new sigma lens offers so much move over my 150-500mm

                      Quick comparison.

                      Sigma 150-600 offers
                      100mm more reach
                      better weather sealing
can be docked to customise to my preferences
Better image quality (This is base on word of mouth no images as of yet)

                      7D Mkii
                      10fps
                      Better low light sensor
65 point all cross type AF

for motor sport, you know your getting good results with the current set up, in most cases I would say get better glass but the sigma is not that bad to begin with its not L but its not bad lol..

If it were me in this situation, I think I would want the better A/F and burst rate for catching a racing automobile at speed. The better low light performance and less noisy higher iso of the 7d would be just icing on the cake at that point. You can always crop and resize to get that extra 100mm of reach easier with a better sensor...... You can upgrade your glass again in the future if need be.

Yeh that is my feeling as well the extra 3 fps and 65point AF will make a huge differance.

And yes my setup is actually really good but you know I always want new toys

keep in mind. that the canon 5d mk4 comes out next year. wait till then to upgrade your body. i have the mk3 and love it. in low light it is still beat by nikon by a long shot. if i were u, id get the mk3 next year and get better lens. the 70d to mk2 isnt worth it.

But I doubt the 5d will have the burst capacity and AF like the 7d has, which is what I really need plus it will be way out of my budget the missus would shoot me if I bought a 3.5-4k camera body
