Oh the diet thing I have down. I naturally dont eat unhealthily, but I just kicked it up a notch and am doing pretty much exactly what you mentioned. Nutri-grain bars, snacks, almonds, salads (which is all stuff I like to eat) and eating every few hours and never like an animal. I also drink 3 green teas a day and I was doing the shake thing with the water when I was lifting. The whole caloric intake vs expenditure I am well versed on since, like I said, I lost 75 lbs back in 2005, so my knowledge is still there and I know I can do it since Ive done it once. ANd Ive been there with the first weeks being hungry but toughing it out thing. It helps when youve done it bfore and you know what to expect and you know youre capable. Also I have some adjustable Bowflex dumbells I was using back then and will look for them at my moms house when I get a chance as those were REALLY helpful. I want to tone and have some muscle-building going on since that also helps burn more calories when youre at rest.

Thanks again for the suggestions, fellas.

That is good to hear. Most people really don't seem to grasp the concept of calories and think that if they walk for half and hour every night they will loose weight . Well good luck with your training, oh and one more thing, if you have the motivation to exercise in the mourning do it as this helps boost your metabolism for the day.

I miss having a pool so much. Swimming is amazing.

This was going to be my suggestion. Its what they have old people do for rehab because its basically zero impact since you are buoyant.

my roomates think im insane for not wearing shoes when we play football or go on any sort run (weahter permitting of course).
it supposedly increases balance, joint strength and encourages a mid foot strike on the pavement.
most people with shoes hit the ground heel first, which is detrimental when training this way.

i know that this goes agains all traditional running but look into it. they do make a shoe called the vibram 5 fingers for this purpose.

until you roll your ankle or step on some glass.

Running shoes can also help those who pronate while running

Although it doesn't directly address your question, one thing that helps in terms of fitness is to make it an attitude and a lifestyle. What I mean by this is make it a habit to take the stairs, park far away and walk across the parking lot(plus people don't door ding you), walk or bike for short trips, swap water for soda etc.

At first it takes conscious effort, but over time you condition yourself to like doing that stuff and start doing it without thinking about it.

Do you just want to lose fat or gain some muscles in the process of losing fat? Diet plays a huge part in both. Diet is probably 70% of losing weight.

If you're gonna go running, dont go hard in the beginning & do it all on roads, you dont wanna get shin splints. Take it easy on grass or on a road, but work your way up. And learn how to run properly, form helps a lot if you don't already know.

Increase your protein intake to help with the soreness. Also don't forget potassium to prevent cramps. I would deff go with biking for the lower impact. Also I would just go out and walk the next day. Let the blood get flowing in the limbs, it will help with the soreness.

All I can say is P90X! Bring it.
After I injured my knee. (Fell off a ladder and landed on my right leg and my knee bent inward). I resorted to cycling. I rode my bike 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles. After that I decided that I could better myself and got myself P90X. From 137lbs to 120lbs. 36% body fat to 15%. My cardio has improved a lot (I was a smoker for several years). I do it everyday in the comfort of my home. I've done the P90X Classic, Round 2 P90X Lean. I bet you, you will enjoy working out with it.

Swim, Swim, Swim, Swim....Seriously..... I used to train and teach swim lessons; nothing works your muscles (strengthens) and provides cardio while being easy on the joints. The reason old people do water sports is that reason. The key to swimming is TWO simple things, keep you head down and KICK!

Your diet will make or break whatever you do though, to me swimming is mentally less boring than running and mentally easier than running.
