My e28 I topped out at 132-ish w/auto tragic trans and M30B34.

My e46 was around 140-ish.

All done around 2am on open, empty, smooth straights. ;-)

Yeah but the guy filmed it. Then, when he was pulled over, told the officer what he had been filming.

I'm glad the videos me and some friends made on our sportbikes a few years ago have "disappeared."

For what its worth stock m42 with a 2.93 out back has a pretty high top speed. it takes forever to get there tho. I chickened out at 140 in mine.

2 years ago in the E90 M3 during the One Lap, I looked down just before NASCAR turn 1 at Dayton and saw ~170, and still had a bit of acceleration to go before getting on the brakes for the raod-course turn 1. Tires we use are shorter than stock, and those cars tend to read a bit high. We figured it was actually in the 155-160 range.


We are heading back to Dayton this year, and have both the supercharger and data acquisition. So, we have an extra 200 HP, the new pavement is significantly smoother and I'll be able to get actual (GPS) speeds! :D


In a month and a half, I'll be able to tell ya what my E30 does at the end of the straights at Road America.

in my E30 I hit 145MPH with the M20. The car would regularly do 140 ish on the ring, but I never looked down enough to see exactly how fast it was going.

I hit 140mph with the S50, but I wasn't pushing it because of a vibration, it was pulling HARD!

In the M40 318i Touring I hit 200kph by an act of god! Man that thing was great around town, but guttless on the autobahn.

In the 3.8L M5 I hit 276kph before I got scared and backed off. the car was still climbing smoothly up the speedo, but that is just scary dangerous speeds.

In the old 1995 M3 I did 155mph with 4 people in the car and a trunk full of luggage:pimp:

In the MINI Clubman, it Hit 140mph on the ring shooting down into foxhole, but that's pretty steep downhill. Still 140mph through the esses there is a cushion sucker.
