Yeah they're probably selling nuclear materials to North Korea.

And your way behind on the news. Do you watch CNN or Fox or what?

Reactors 1 and 3 have had hydrogen explosions but other than the steam the radiation is mostly contained. They are being cooled with sea water (AKA they're written off)
Reactor 2 had the containment vessel fail today, the fuel has been exposed to air and is melting down. They tried pumping in sea water but it won't hold water.
      Reactor 4 is burning.
Radiation near the power plant is way beyond the safe limit so they evacuated all non essential personnel.
It sounds like they're expanding the evacuation radius to 30km.
I hope they can get all the help they need.

I have been catching parts here and there from any station that's on. But it's pretty scary to think all the nuclear radiation is amongst the country again. I can't even begin to imagine how I'd be handling that.

You know, at the very moment I type this people are risking their health and their lives trying to battle this thing, and you're sitting in your warm home, safe and cozy far away from the disaster, speculating about something you don't know a damn thing about. It makes you sound like a total asshat.

All I could think of last night was while I'm asleep in my bed there are 50 people working desperately in the most dangerous location on earth trying to avert a total catastrophe (as if the quake and tsunami weren't enough). All you can think of is some wierd government conspiracy/coverup. Grow up.

Speculating about what? I tried to post the clearest facts I could find as they happened even if they disagreed with the official line at the time. So far they've all turned out to be true. Did you see any of the TEPCO or Japanese gov news conferences as they happened? They were being evasive and every step of the way which contributed to the panic in Japan right now because the people have stopped believing the official line. The information coming from the US navy and several foreign embassies in Tokyo still contradicts the official radiation figures for Tokyo and surrounding cities.
I lived 200 miles away from Chernobyl when it happed and watched everyone freak out around me looking of iodine tablets while the gov was still trying to deny the severity of the accident. For months afterwards people had no idea how much radiation they had been explosed to or even if their food or water was safe to consume. So please spare me your high and mighty BS. The people in Japan have already been through a lot. The least they should get from their own gov at this point is straight answers. The real effects on health won't be known for years and the economy will also suffer. How many people are going to panic in this country about buying Made in Japan goods?
The workers at the power plant are closest thing to heros they have today.

it sounds like we both agree from different perspectives. lets leave it at that and hope it doesn't turn into chernobyl.

America's top nuclear official told Congress today that the pool cooling spent fuel rods at the crippled Japanese nuclear complex had lost most of its water or all of its water, a potentially catastrophic situation. The Japanese quickly challenged that statement, but gave few details saying only that the situation at the holding pool was "stable."

Since the disaster struck in Japan, about 800 workers have been evacuated from the damaged nuclear complex in Fukushima. The radiation danger is that great.

However, CBS News correspondent Jim Axelrod reports that a handful have stayed on the job, risking their lives, to try to save the lives of countless people they don't even know. The exact number of workers is unclear and has been reported to be anywhere from 50 to 180.

Although communication with the workers inside the nuclear plant is nearly impossible, a CBS News consultant spoke to a Japanese official who made contact with one of the workers inside the control center.

The official said that his friend told him that he was not afraid to die, that that was his job.
No looting. No violence. People actually taking care of each other. Men stepping up ready to die to protect their people.

So much respect for the Japanese right now.

Helicopter video of Japan's troubled Fukushima Nuclear plant from yesterday indicates how extensive the damage at the plant is from the earthquake, tsunami, and subsequent explosions.

According to reports, the video was shot about 32 hours ago by a Tokyo Electric Company employee in a Japanese Self-Defense Helicopter surveying the plant. The editors of the video highlight the Fukushima 4 nuclear reactor, which holds the spend fuel rods and looks absolutely destroyed.

It's a rare up-close view of the plant we're now only seeing from a long-range for safety reasons and it's an extremely disheartening one.

for real updates, not hyped up over dramatized news networks information, check out this site.

PDATE AS OF 11:35 A.M. EDT, THURSDAY, MARCH 17:

                        Fukushima Daiichi
The reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi plant are in stable condition and are being cooled with seawater, but workers at the plant continue efforts to add cooling water to fuel pools at reactors 3 and 4.

The status of the reactors at the site is as follows:

Reactor 1's primary containment is believed to be intact and the reactor is in a stable condition. Seawater injection into the reactor is continuing.

Reactor 2 is in stable condition with seawater injection continuing. The reactor's primary containment may not have been breached, Tokyo Electric Power Co. and World Association of Nuclear Operators officials said on Thursday.

Access problems at the site have delayed connection of a temporary cable to restore off-site electricity. The connection will provide power to the control rod drive pump, instrumentation, batteries and the control room. Power has not been available at the site since the earthquake on March 11.

Reactor 3 is in stable condition with seawater injection continuing. The primary containment is believed to be intact. Pressure in the containment has fluctuated due to venting of the reactor containment structure.

TEPCO officials say that although one side of the concrete wall of the reactor 4 fuel pool structure has collapsed, the steel liner of the pool remains intact, based on aerial photos of the reactor taken on March 17. The pool still has water providing some cooling for the fuel; however, helicopters dropped water on the reactor four times during the morning (Japan time) on March 17. Water also was sprayed at reactor 4 using high-pressure water cannons.

Reactors 5 and 6 were both shut down before the quake occurred. Primary and secondary containments are intact at both reactors. Temperature instruments in the spent fuel pools at reactors 5 and 6 are operational, and temperatures are being maintained at about 62 degrees Celsius. TEPCO is continuing efforts to restore power at reactor 5.

North Korea doesn't need support from anyone else (nuclear wise). They have big brother China. Even sometimes older brother can't control younger brother. They are not in the same body.

What the Japanese dont need is outsiders who dont know the fuck what is actually going on running their mouths, sensationalizing stories, creating hype like they're doing now and causing more problems.
