I'm no nuclear physicist but isn't there a way they can cap this shit with some sort of radiation resistant gigantic dome at least to buy some time before everything goes to hell? What about the use of liquid nitrogen as a cooling agent? Why can they not truck in some self contained back up generators? Is the power requirement too high? Is there a hose/pipe they could have used to pump water from the ocean? If they can cap a giant oil leak in the middle of an ocean, there should have some other contingency plans in place.

F'ing 2012 is starting early. Think about it, Christchurch, Tokyo, Chile, Indo-China MF'ing earthquakes and tsunamis are commonplace. Unrest in the middle east and nuclear arms and meltdowns. Every country needs to have a doomsday scenario modeled and have its nations brain trust figure the stuff out before shit happens. Its time to build the Ark up there near Mt Everest.

Werd. The major news coverage is so annoying and competely worthless.

            Yeah that worked out well.

From TEPCO's own presentation from nov 2010.

Good luck filling up these pools with a couple of helicopters and some riot control water cannons in a radioactive environment. The pilots couldn't get closer than 300 meters. They need to fill up the pools faster than the water boils away. At this point pool 3 and 4 are dry, extremely hot and far too radioactive for people to get close.
