That's why I like to ride around in a semi all day. No matter how big and modified their 4x4 is, they know who's boss.
Just think of how easily you can kill someone with one though - doesn't take much. Whole lot of power and responsibility in driving such a big vehicle.

/dad rant :)
Yeah, that's one of the biggest things they stress when getting a CDL. I think the extra training you need to go through is something all drivers need to do, that way some of those people out there actually pay attention.
The worst is people who mistake the large gap in front of you (needed stopping distance for something weighing 65,000 pounds)as the zone for "Wow, I should just jump out in front of this guy".
Either that or the big ass sticker saying "THIS VEHICLE MAKES WIDE RIGHT TURNS" and then having people try and cut inside of you when making a right turn and then act surprised when your 40' trailer doesn't turn on a dime.
Parts of the PA turnpike are 65 mph, although the closer you get to major cities it typically drops down to 55. That speedlimit is fine with me. I can typically get away with 75 mph, and if I know the road well enough to know where cops might be I can typically push it higher if I want. However, pass a state trooper doing over 80 and you will more than likely get a ticket.
Doing 90 mph and still keeping with the flow of traffic when I lived in Florida was a little hairy. A large majority of driver's licenses should be revoked in my opinion because people just don't know how to drive. Its a priveledge, not a right.

And that doesn't include the drivers who run over their weight limit. I will never cut in front of a huge dump truck or one that has come from a quarry or construction site or a cement truck. Those things can weigh in excess of 130,000lbs. Hmm... Force = mass * velocity / time = your car the size of a paper clip when its over.
I personally think that people should have to atleast take the written part of the CDL exam. The fact that people can drive those 45' motor homes with a regular driver's license  Yeah... cos 52,000 lbs of rolling mass handles just like a 3000 lb car. :?

Thats the problem, I believe it needs to become a right as it is impossible to not have a car and get to work and back in the midwest or any other place without mass transit. America should stop sprawling and focus on the ability to get places.
As for speedlimitless roads, we have more fatalities 1) yes drivers suck 2) b/c we don't inspect vehicles.
Most Interstate highways though are soo straight that 90-100 is not a big deal, but agreed I wouldn't want some dude in a burban' going 90, but they do already. More so it is America and my liberty say I can endanger myself all I want if I hurt someone else sue me. We are all forgetting that everyday more and more freedom in this country is being taken away, stop reactionary policing and start protecting.
Alabama is 70 on the interstates and Mississippi is 75...
As much as I wish that was true, Mississippi is 70 on most interstates. From my experience most state troopers will let you go up to 76 or so without pulling you over-unless it is at the end of the month and quotas need to be met.

There are few things more expensive than a cheap BMW...

Speed Limits exist for $$$$$$$$$$
Less than 5% of vehicle fatalities occur on 4 lane and/or interstate highways. That being said, law enforcement puts over 50% of its resources patrolling them and writing tickets. Tell me it's not a revenue game. If they spent more time in town enforcing the "rules of the road" they'd make a bigger difference in road safety and still be able to generate their "normal" financial rape rate of the average driver. If they actually enforced the "safety" laws there'd be less fatalities and better drivers. They need to be ticketing the light and stop sign runners, the turning left on red runners, the left lane hogs, the 50 in a school zone idiot, etc.

I think in Montana, during the day, they do not have a speed limit. Don't quote me, but I think the law says something like "within reasonable limit."
I've read something of the same thing. It was in an article about the Porsche 959, and in the article, it said something about how people would be lining up on the Montana border in the morning with the new 959.

"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."
i went to college 100 miles north of KC in a little town called Marryville...
the weekend commute was intense, less than 20,000 people liveing in that part of the state and you would see speed traps all along 29..... just catching college kids and makeing money... i agree with any one who says tickets are for revenue. And I dont think cops under stand that when they are giveing a ticket, they are totaly fucking some ones day up right then and there.
