Dont limit it to climate, you can adjust. My sister-in-law married a guy from South Africa (Durban) and he moved here about a year or two ago. They live in Iowa, which is VERY cold in the winter but people adapt. He already got accepted to Iowa State University and is working for a 4-year degree. You just need a green card and some skills and you will be fine.

Move somewhere that interests you, then travel around to make sure you found the right place.

Yeah, I'd get your immigration stuff squared away. We're not exactly an "open country." Getting a work visa is going to be hard, especially without an advanced degree.

Atlanta. 4-5 million people, Jobs can be found, Climate 10 months out of the year is great, Road Atlanta is 30 mins away depending where you live here, Many other tracks close by as well like Barbor Motorsports in Birmingham (2.5 hour drive), Your accent will be an instant talking point lol, Housing isn't stupid money,

Nashville is 3-4 hours away and very nice as well.

            Good luck

              Thanks guys!

I understand what case with the Green Card, and it is my biggest big bear at the moment. I need to see how it will work out, because we would like to move out there before we get married, but if it needs to be we can move afterwards. Which would help my passport situation as I then get a EU passport (as far as I understand with the EU and Portuguese laws).

So after a little looking Atlanta sounds good too, and it never did occur to me to live near one of my favorite Baseball teams (I played for SA as a kid) that's a bonus.

I'm going to be going to the US Consulate here in, as well as the Portuguese embassy. This will help square things away and help us to start planning.

@Brandon12v, when you say peanuts would they be enough coupled with a teachers salary to be able to live here? I assume it would so long as we don't plan on living an extravagant life style.

Once again thanks guys, nothing better than getting info from the guys who are there!

At least visit places like San Diego in California. Sometimes being next to that beach is so worth it.

You will love the California climate and lifestyle but I do admit that the cost of living a little higher here than in other states and from what I have been hearing, california's job market is not so good for job seekers. We also have some very strict smog laws so modding a car can be difficult.

Not trying to stir you away as I love living here being California born and raised, just trying to give you a realistic picture. Come visit and see how you like it. You might love it, you might not...then move to Las Vegas and live the wild life...

dont got to Houston. Not to hate but its a hot muggy pit. If youre going to texas, Austin is the place to be.

Charlotte is quite nice. Two to three hours from everything, beach, mountains and VIR. It's not too small and not too big, pretty affordable living, lots of trees and mild winters and decent economy. The only other place I would consider if I could afford it would be San Francisco.

The best city in the world though is Nelson New Zealand, especially for right hand drive E30s. Go live there if you don't have family in the states.

I like how everyone is promoting their own town. I will join.

Front range colorado (Denver, Boulder, Ftcollins). Midwest values (less douche-bags per capita), mountains for all the outdoor activity you could ever want. Over 300 days of sunshine, no bugs, etc.

Well I'll break the mould. Dont move to Massachusetts. Boston is as expensive as SD or LA without the great weather nor the over abundance of hot girls.
Ma che cazzo state dicendo? :|
