These may be far from the best of times, but they are no longer the worst. Last year's annual "Best Cities for Jobs" list was by far the most dismal since we began compiling our rankings almost five years ago. Between 2009 and 2010, only 13 of 397 metropolitan areas experienced any growth at all. For this year's list, which measured job growth in the period between January 2010 and January 2011, most of the best-performing areas experienced actual employment increases -- even if they were modest.

For Forbes' list of the best cities for jobs, we ranked all 398 current metropolitan statistical areas, based on employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported from November 1999 to January 2011. Rankings are based on recent growth trends, mid-term growth and long-term growth and momentum. We also broke down rankings by size -- small, medium and large -- since regional economies differ markedly due to their scale.

          No. 1: Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos, Texas

          2010 rank: 1
Overall rank (for big, mid-sized and small cities): 6
          Nonfarm employment change: 1.5%

          No. 2: New Orleans-Metairie-Kenner, La.

          2010 rank: 46
Overall rank (for big, mid-sized and small cities): 7
          Nonfarm employment change: 0.8%

          No. 3: Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, Texas

          2010 rank: 3
Overall rank (for big, mid-sized and small cities): 14
          Nonfarm employment change: 1.9%

No. 4: San Antonio-New Braunfels, Texas

          2010 rank: 2
Overall rank (for big, mid-sized and small cities): 17
          Nonfarm employment change: 0.8%

          No. 5: Dallas-Plano-Irving, Texas

          2010 rank: 5
Overall rank (for big, mid-sized and small cities): 18
          Nonfarm employment change: 2.3%

You guys (white SAfricans) ran that place...I dont' see the need to go elsewhere just because you think life will be easier. I guess it's like the old saying of the grass being greener on the other side.

Even tho the political structure has changed, doesn't means ppl's attitudes towards others has.

From my travels around the country, if I were to move I would move to these places (not considering cars)

New Hampshire - Live free or Die. That's the state's motto. /end

Either Carolina - South Carolina is a cheaper alternative to live in to North Carolina. In NC, Charlotte is an awesome city. Raleigh and Durham are cool college cities with a big heavy metal band scene. SC, Columbia is a decent city. I would live east of Columbia. The Carolinas is where my wife and I will end up in 5 years. Some of the nicest people in the country live there. And some of the best roads are in the western ends of the state.

North of Atlanta (Alpharetta area) - Very nice areas with a lot of jobs in different industries. Its slightly warmer than the Carolinas. The sweet tea will make you crash so hard from an insulin spike.

Eugene to Salem OR - I spent a lot of time in this area. The people are way cooler than Washington people (no offense) and they love to make fun of washington people. These guys like their 4WD and the weather is a nicer version of the Northeast. Coolest guy I worked with lives in the Hillboro area. (Home of Intel)

Utah/Idaho/Wyoming - The wild west is bigger than life. Its not known for jobs or city life, but if you're into outdoor life, look no further. I loved visiting those states. Wyoming gets a little flat to the east so if you like bombing your cars in the mountains, I'd look to east Wyoming.

Kentucky - Because you can get away with being a redneck.

I hear Nashville area is really nice to live in too but I never have been to TN.
Ma che cazzo state dicendo? :|

                            South Carolina FTW!

I spent the first 23 years of my life there. North West of Columbia. I'm now 24 and live in MD.

Haven't quite figured that one out, figured if I can't get on on this passport, we will wait till we're married and see if we can get one on a EU passport. Not under any delusions that it will be easy but we will just keep at it till we get it right. As we both want to move over there, I got a taste plenty years back when we came over to play golf for SA, and have always wanted to go back.

For ever 12 jobs offered only 1 white will get the job (and that is usually a female), due to affirmative action and what they call BEE (Black Economic Empowerment) Which demands that so many people of each colour and gender get positions in companies. Unfortunately white males are at the bottom of that list. That being said the younger generation (say around my age and younger) the views are changing and with in 20 years it should be mostly a by gone era, but there will always be racial tension, it's just a human thing.

You should check out this website if you plan on importing your e30

Federalization is a bitch, you would probably have better luck selling your e30s in your country and buying one here...
