Transmissions and heater cores. The last heater core that went out on me just got taken out of the loop. $600 for a shop to replace it or or or or me break every piece of old plastic car taking it out for replacement.

I replaced the heater core and valve in mine a few years ago. Didn't have a problem. It just slides out...

Transmission, not really hard to remove but I can't stand doing it for some reason.

P.S. The e30 I am working on has never seen a winter. I have no clue how those rear bolts became solid.
I guess I got lucky. The first and only time I did it, the car only had 63k miles on it so everything was still in good shape. Now I am doing it all over again on my DD which is about 180K miles old. Oh yeah and impact tools help a lot.

I've come to realize e30s are extremely simple to work on. The hardest thing I had to do was replace the oil pump, which involved suspending the engine and dropping the subframe. However, that still only took a couple hours at most.

I'm in an Audi Coupe Quattro now and man are these things a bitch to work on. I had to take the front end and secondary radiator (yes... SECONDARY RADIATOR) off just to line up the timing marks on the cam. What I thought was a 10min job turned into a 2 hour ordeal. Poop

Differentials. Again, not a hard job. Just something I don't enjoy doing and regardless of how easy it should be, as soon as my ass gets involved it's suddenly a 7 hour job.

Fixed. I've done water pumps and blower motors on those as well.

Rear shocks in my Touring. Ya have to take almost the whole trunk area apart to get to the top bolts. If you drop one in the fender area, be prepared for another 30min or so of disassembly and fishing for the nut. Ask me how I know...

HVAC box on pretty much any BMW where you cannot damage parts to get to it. A close second is the E30 headliner/sunroof. I'd much rather do a diff swap or install new rear wheel bearings than that job. Tedious is the first word that comes to mind.

Transfer case swap to a lockable one on my 03 LR Disco was a bear too...

Well yeah that's what I meant mostly. And having to break loose rusted rear subframe bolts. Those are just terrible.

My sunroof was no problem, and the one I removed was made of glass....

Mine used to be the dash- the entire wiring harness was literally woven into it from underneath. took 2 hours by myself to get it out and in 1 piece, it was crackless so I was pretty anxious to get it out very carefully.

Then I removed the stock exhaust from my 87 325is with 230k. It was driven in Upstate NY most of its life. Pulled it in a garage that was 30 degrees in mid-January- with a socket wrench and a combo wrench. Squealing, rusty, PB blaster soaked 20 degree turns at a time. Words cannot express the frustration.
