Hah I bet. There are so many Volvo driving, alternative-listening hipsters in the PNW.
Do you still go on TB? I go from time to time, but I just started to lose interest when I bought my E30. Sorta sad actually, I really loved to own a nice 242 Turbo someday.

The black 245 is mainly being driven by my dad, sis, and other family members that need to "move something" from time to time. I really wanna pick it up again...maybe during college!

A volvo (any model) is nothing to be proud of. Seriously...

The onyl thing that made the car great was the comfy seats....THATS IT!! sorry to break yo hearts fellow R3Vers those cars all suck! Heck even look at the current Volvo's...there's nothing good or great they do. The only thing abotu them is they are "quirky" like Saab. But lucky for them, they had a bit mroe funding to keep them afloat.

Some of the things I hated on those old RWD volvo's were: terrible fuel economy for a 4 cyl NA engine, shitty plastic pieces that would deteriorate exponentially with time (something I experience with my "new" 04 S60 too), shitty handling, and the fact that parts and maint. costs were comparable to a bmw. I'm sorry, but there's nothing on a Volvo that is worth anymore than a Ford Tempo. Shitty electronics, door panels that come "unglued" when you look at then the wrong way, ceiling material that falls with age....etc.

The one thing that really took the cake for me was on my S60, the car could not make sharp left turns AT ANY SPEED because it would cause the tire to rub against the inner fender and cause a horrible shuddering and wear out the tire prematurely...mind you, this was using STOCK SUSPENSION AND WITH STOCK 17 inch VOLVO wheels and STOCK tire size. To add insult to injury, Volvo continued with this setup from 2000-2009. After all the customer complaints, you'd think they'd get the message from the techs and customers that they are building a shitty car that SHOULD be improved to prevent this from occuring, but they didn't!

I've owned many a volvo...never again! I told my GF that if I should ever make the mistake of owning one, to leave me and never look back.

that's strange, i've sold volvos for 8 years and never once had a complaint like yours.
we would actually do test drives in an autocross track for the clients. i've sold many of the s60s T5 and all of them satisfied customers...repeat clients as well.

            i own a 98 V70 T5 and I love it. So much power.

Did you give the dealership's service dept. a chance to correct the problem? A lot of the problems I read about in forums are raised by silent complainers. Where they don't complain to the people who can do something about it, but complain to other people who absolutely can't do anything.

Oh and the S60 comes with a stock 16" wheels except the T5 & R that comes with the upgraded suspension set up. Unless of course, it's sold differently in the US. In the Philippines, the S60 comes with a 2.0 Light pressure turbo, 200 bhp and the T5 with 250bhp and the R with 300bhp.

I must agree, the S60 is not the pinnacle of Volvo's innovation.
My parents' 2002 Cross Country has suffered a SHIT load of problems.
Including: $4k for new tranny (still messed up), drive shaft, ecu problems, the power door locks are broken, and cost $800 to fix, overall its falling apart.
The old 240 wagon is a 10x more reliable, solid car than the XC70.
Our 240 has over 300k, and is still going. The XC on the otherhand, has like 130k, and is on its last limb.

The previous generation V70/S70/850s are much better cars.
Volvo's AWD system on P2 cars was complete shit, and didn't even work when I needed it in Tahoe.

Here are some nice volvos on the contrary:

I can appreciate the effort but old Volvos do absolutely nothing for me. Even all modded up, they still look like a car that was meant to be comfy.

                  I actually own one of the best V70 models. It's a 98 T5. 250 bhp.
                  Anyways, check this one out:
Modern cars can do over 100,000 miles without pausing for breath. If you really pile on the miles, you might have 200,000 or even 300,000 miles on the clock. If the car Gods are really shining on you, you might have managed more than half a million.

True, I lived in the cold prairie north, where temps of -20C were not uncommon over 5 months a year. I suppose that can cause havoc with most cars

the 17's I was running were actual VOlvo alloy wheels. When I downgraded to a set of 15's for winter, the rubbing went away.

and yes, I had addressed several of these problems to my local dealer as the car was on an extended warrant. I had several components replaced in the suspension from odd noises on a car with approx. 40k miles (mind you the car was a mere 4 years old at the time).

I purchased the NA 5 cyl model as it was the ONLY Volvo S60 I could find with an actual 5 speed manual transmission (the kind with 3 pedals in the driver footwell). You have no idea how many ppl phoned me when I was selling the car, thinking I was lying, or mis-informed as to what transmission I had in my car. Most Volvo S60's sold since 01 were wither some auto variant or had at least a light pressure turbo...not with this one...which is why I purchased it, foolishly thinking I'd own it as long as my dad kept his 240's....boy was I wrong!

True...when I purchased my s60, i thought Volvo would have at least had some time since the 80's to reverse engineer any model bmw and take a few pages about performance form them....boy was I wrong!

i would still choose volvo for safety reasons. i had a client who walked in the showroom with a cast on his leg and arm. I approached him and he said right away, you don't need to sell me on one. I am alive because I was driving one. Apparently, he and his wife were driving up the mountains and there was a bus way a bit happy going downhill but was not able to slow down fast enough to avoid them and push them off the road to the ravine down below. They were driving an 850 wagon. Both came out alive. The wife who was pregnant at that time escaped without injuries. If you see the car, the whole cabin was intact and the front and rear were completely crushed. I am still impressed by this. No matter how much I love BMWs, Volvos will always have a place in my heart. Well, at least the boxy ones. I like cars with less electronic gadgets in them.

This I can agree with. At the age of 5 my parents and older bro were involved in a head on collision with another car. This was back in the days of seatbelts beign a bit of an unnecessary thing for kids in the back seats. At the time we had a 73 145S wagon, we were doing some Saturday morning errands with my parents and my dad had a can of motor oil rolling around in the rear cargo area and asked my brother to retrieve it so it doesn't break open and start leaking. Mind you the car ws moving at the time and I didn't have my belt on either.

There was a Dodge Aspen that accelerated out from a side street that my dad was unable to avoid hitting. as a result my brother was thrown against the back of the 2 front seats (almost went thru to the dash area), while I stood up as soon as I could and saw the problem ahead and hid in the rear passenger footwell behind my mom's seat. My mom had whiplash and my bro was in a state of shock, but I got away with a small scratch on my forehead...

While looking over the car after the accident, it became apparent that the other car's passenger tire was lodged up and into the engine of our Volvo. The car was obviously written off, but my dad swore to only purchase Volvo's after that incident.
..heck, it's all we swore we'd ever own!

I guess in my personal travels and experience with driving, I've just started to view life differently than my dad, as i'm grown, have no kids, nor wife, so safety isnt' really of a concern for me. For me, it's all about the fun, reliability and performance of a car...heck I guess that's why I went ahead and got my motorcycle license last spring and have enjoyed riding so much.

I guess it's all in perspective...
