Sure, Paypal has some problems, but if you don't like it, then just MAIL the money, wait for the person to get it, then wait for them to cash your check, then maybe they'll still have the item you're trying to buy.

Same thing on the seller's side- yes, their fees suck, and they don't always get the claims process right, in fact, it's not that hard for someone who wants to rip someone off to do so. But, it's a convenient service and it works fine 99.999% of the time.

I think google checkout will be the preferred service for my business transactions.

I've been using it for a while now. Less fees, easier to use (imo), and it is bundled with my plethora of other google products that I already use. Of course, ebay only accepts paypal (since they OWN paypal)....

Google checkout already does this, but I think its 10 days. Its also for merchants, not consumers.. I do have an account though.

only transactions that they (or their algorithm) find suspicious. This is from their ToS.

"GPC may delay payment processing of suspicious transactions or transactions which may involve fraud, misconduct, or violate applicable law, this Terms of Service for Buyers, or other applicable GPC or Service policies, as determined in GPC’s sole and absolute discretion."

I really like using PayPal for the convenience. Their online shipping service from UPS has incredible rates if you purchase via the paypal site, or at least it does for me.

The beauty of it is that when I use their service, everyone gets an email, tracking numbers and all. The shipping label prints flawlessly, every time. I can re-print as needed, too.

I am sure Google has that (knowing them, likely more) and is as easy to use. I am hoping that the learning curve is easier on their site, I expect it will be.

Paypal has been very good for me, merchant-wise as well. I have had only 1 payment ever held back (except for e-check payments) in several years. I also use their debit card as my primary account, as most of my income is via paypal. I like knowing that I get an email anytime money comes into or goes out of my Paypal...again, I bet Google does the same thing.

As far as "Customer Service", when I need help, I CALL them. I go to their site and get a "Web PIN" before I call them...I generally get an actual american on the phone, generally patient and knowledgeable, quite amazing to me, the best customer service I have gotten from a financial institution, ever.

So, why haven't I added, if not switched? No clue, I think I will research some more, see if all of that is as seamless as the service I get from PayPal. I have zero loyalty to any institution, as none have any loyalty to me. If I can get the same or better for less money I am on it.

So far, PayPal has been a winner though, 100% flawless.

                Luke

A quick note: as a merchant, Googles TOS is far more intricate, far more intrusive and requires far more interaction with Google. They monitor virtually every phase of the transaction, and require a full list of every product you sell through them. If prices change, or you run out of stock on a particular item, you have to update your "data feed" or you can get tossed off their merchant services platform. It is all clearly defined in their TOS.

Google is not as extreme as Amazon, who requires a registered UPI (yes, the bar code thingie) which is fairly expensive to get a new product (say, an E30 specific subwoofer box) registered.

Selling stuff they already have registered (a Kitchen-Aid toaster, for example) is no biggie...but that UPI is WAY more resource than I have available.

I cannot seem to find a phone number, either. If I could call someone and ask a few million questions, maybe have someone hold my hand as we walked through their plan, I would jump on...but so far, no mention of discounted shipping, no mention of a debit card, no mention of LOTS of details that are all important to me.

I will keep digging, but so far Google seems a poor fit for my particular needs.

I just recently began accepting Paypal again because of the new clientele we are getting. I too got this bullshit "your funds will be held for 21 days" letter.
I hate Paypal but it seems to be a necessary evil. I still much prefer Google and a straight CC processor with a good rate.

Really? Because they require none of that for my old web store. Granted it was nearly 8 months ago when I stopped bothering with it.

Ive not experienced any of this either Luke. I had to jump through a few hoops for them when the dollar amount got past a certain level but they were very accommodating and never required anything from me as far as product goes. Knock on wood.. Ive not had one complaint or claim yet
but its been painless so far and people seem to like it if you dont count that taxi driver M3 dude in chicago

all of that crap starts 9/2011 according to their site, or at least the crap I read this morning.

I am going to call them...if I can't get them on the phone, they can piss off.

Yea, if you are ready to rock, get yourself a label printer. This $200 printer saved my life, shipping as much as I do. PM me. For your needs Luke, paypal is where it's at for the time being. Blunt is on a whole nother level. He's taking (I assume) 50-100 orders a day. Don't worry about for now.

I'll second that. I had someone get into my paypal, and cleaned me out. It was only a few hundred bucks ($1200 IIRC). But, in 30 mins, my account was back to where it was. Try that at you local bank.
