That was my point. But i guess if he's just going to bail on the northern winter it will be perfect.

Housing around Lake Travis is in the 350k+ range easy. There are a lot of 1 million+ houses out here aswell. I rent a 5bed/3.5bath with a 3 car garage close the lake with a couple of friends and it isnt cheap... lol

But I LOVE Austin, and the surrounding area. The drought and wildfires are not a good selling point though...We are on our toes.

only problem with austin is it is full of either politicians, hippies, and artsy freaks.
then a splash of normal people. I like austin a lot, but i couldn't live there.

Houston is far too humid for me (was born out in deer park and stayed for a while)

I like Ft worth a lot, great night life, very well maintained by local governments, police are all pretty legit, great places to live and eat, and you're close to everything.

Dallas is hit or miss, i live in carrollton (way north dallas) and it's very nice up here, however, this whole area HATES car people. Ive got a neighbor who is with the carrollton PD and asked him about it a few nights ago actually and he said its not necessarily that most cops pull over modified looking cars on purpose, its that there is nothing better to do since carrolton has a huge police force and not much to do with it.

San Antonio is really nice, lots of tourist stuff though, which can get old after a while, causes traffic to get weird at different hours.

Im a big fan of Ruidoso, New Mexico and Santa Fe, NM
Great weather year around, incredible scenery, etc etc and for the money you want to spend you can have a pretty nice place in either of them areas

Proximity to racetracks? I'd def visit the local tracks.

There are no "hippes and artsy freaks" in my neck of the woods. They all live downtown and in east Austin. The area I live in is very low crime, extremely clean, and well taken care of area. Amazing places to eat all over. I have lived here my whole life and can guarantee plenty of "normal people" live in Austin.

                To each his own.
