Well, sorta.. but that's like saying ford stole the idea for the model T from horse drawn carriages.
not exactly, but pretty close. he did see xerox's mouse and thought it would go well with his GUI OS. however, the 3 button mouse xerox had was pretty complicated and it cost $300 to produce. apple's 1 button mouse was super simple, it cost $15.
if you can reinvent an object so that you can mass produce it for the public... that is more significant that just producing it. for example, what good is a cure for AIDS if each vaccine costs $10 million? it's a mile stone, sure. but the person that makes it $10 will be the one who saved africa. :P

It's easy to sell something for a hundredth of the price when you don't have to recoup R&D costs...
Steve Jobs is the MOST influential person of our lifetime. Like it or not.
Apple and Steve Jobs changed the technology game completely.
Bringing technology to the people, making it accessible and easy to use.
He revolutionized the way we think about everything, through his products.
He changed not only the computer market, but cell phones and mobile music players as well.
The world has lost a visionary.
And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented.
I'll leave you with this quote:
"Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."
Steve Jobs - May his legacy and influence live on FOREVER
Love em' or hate em' your all still talking about him. He was an icon. He will forever be known as a pioneer of the computer era. Our childerens, childerens will probably know who Steve Jobs is.

I think you are forgetting about the Woz too, without him there would be no Apple. Steve Jobs was a great business man and big picture guy, and you need those people, but the people who idolize him forget that he didn't actually design any of these things that make Apple a world power.

Good lord man, taking it a bit far don't you think? The MOST influential person of our lifetime? I think not.
I think he was very influential in the technology we use today and was brilliant at marketing an image. It was his attention to detail that really set him apart from others and it is those touches that make the Apple products.
he took things that were already on the market, added a little twist, and marketed the shit out of it
In what shape or form was the iPhone already on the market? In the days of 2 and 3G, Nokia had bricks called communicators, SE had obese monsters with pens. PDAs were a hassle to work on and were almost as expensive as laptops. The iPad has been on the market for a year and a half and the other manf's haven't been able to catch up to Apple until the last couple months.
People rant at how expensive Apple products are, but how did everyone forget the prices of "business phones" and PDAs?
Btw. my dad always said he never understood the concept of expos. Back in his entrepreneurial days, he invited people to his own "seminars" aka Keynotes. When you're introducing a product at an expo, you just get lost in the buzz. It's not genius, rather smart thinking.
